Preston, United Kingdom Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Are you an ambitious therapy assistant looking for job progression, more responsibility and better pay? Or are you someone with experience in healthcare that wants to qualify in a therapy discipline? We have an “on the job and university-based” role for you that will enable you to progress to become a band 4 Therapy Assistant Practitioner.

Our admission avoidance team is brand new and as a result we are recruiting for a range of different positions from band 3-7. You will be part of the integrated therapy team creating solutions that allow patients who no longer require hospital treatment to safely be discharged home as well as preventing admission for as many as possible.

This is a chance to access a foundation degree that could enable you to follow your ambitions to move to a 2 year degree course in OT or PT or simply to gain more expertise as a therapy assistant. You will be supported by the therapy team and have a mentor to support you with your academic work.

As a team we will be identifying patients that will benefit from therapy involvement. You’ll work closely with the ward staff as well as the therapy team. You’ll be information gathering to identify patients with care and support needs. This could be a phone call with relatives or directly with the patients. You’ll be working without direct supervision but under the guidance of therapists to deliver interventions to prevent deconditioning and promote independence.

You could be prescribing equipment, practicing mobility, or helping people to progress therapy programmes as people improve. You’ll be contributing to the development of the service; we’re keen to hear your ideas. You will be attending a two-year university foundation course and completing academic assignments. You’ll help educate ward staff to promote independence.

This is a 7-day service from 8- 6 so you will be expected to work within this shift pattern. This pattern allows for flexibility and options can be explored at interview.

We have 10,000 fantastic people working hard to deliver quality services to our patients. Whatever your role, you help look after 370,000 people in our local area & give specialist care to 1.5 million people across Lancashire & Cumbria.

Working with us gives you the knowledge and sense of pride that every activity you do genuinely does make a difference to support our patients & staff, ensuring we keep thriving & delivering outstanding healthcare right across our local towns.

You’ll have access to varied development opportunities, learn new skills, meet fab people & do things you’d never have done. You’ll learn about working in a hospital, interacting with people from all different roles to build skills & enhance your career path.

You’ll make an impact, be challenged to think differently, be bold & help innovate to keep improving things. Everything we do centres around patient care which means your role is pivotal and something really to be proud of.

People come with life experience and all sorts of talents. We are looking for varied skills that adds something extra to the team.

We know that communication is a key foundation to success in anything we do. You’ll need to be able to adapt to different situations and levels of ability when communicating with all the people you come across.

The ability to organise and prioritise your own workload is something we can help you work towards but you will need to be adaptable and flexible.

You’ll come across a variety of conditions and presentations so will need to be aware of risk assessment and how to find out what the potential risks might be.

You will become competent across both occupational therapy and physiotherapy interventions and assessments.

IT skills are a necessity as we document our interventions electronically.

You may be supervising and sharing your knowledge and skills with staff and students as part of your role.

You’ll be key member of a high-profile front door team that aims to prevent admission or reduce lengths of stay so that patient flow through the hospital improves.
