We are looking for a qualified Assistant Practitioner / Nursing Associate, who has a passion for providing high quality patient focused care for our surgical patients who have a flexible attitude towards work and a desire for new challenges.

You will gain valuable experience & will develop wound assessment knowledge and wound care management skills. Pre & Post operative care knowledge & skills. These skills are transferable to any area of your nursing career.

The role is patient facing and requires excellent communication skills. You will be expected to carry your own caseload of patients; assessing them early in their admission, identifying their individual needs and delivering therapeutic healthcare (including manual handling, mobilisation, delivering exercises and supporting activities of daily living) and working towards early discharge from hospital. Admitting surgical patients, completing WHO checklists using various It systems within the trust including QMED and EPMA, Individual risk assessments and the OPERA system.

General duties will include pre & post-operative care, physiological observations and investigations. You will develop an in depth knowledge of wound management and the specific needs of patients who fall under the speciality of surgery.

As a Band 4 in Surgery you will receive direct support from senior nursing colleagues to develop and enhance your skills. Enabling you to nurse a cohort of patients and be responsible for their pre and post op care.

You will contribute to the assessment, implementation and evaluation of care to meet patients’ needs in accordance with agreed local and national standards and evidence based guidelines under supervision.

Support and provide patient education and health promotion.

Support the delivery and co-ordination of care, through appropriate professional practice.

Contribute to the management of risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
