Applications are invited for the post of Senior Neonatal Safety and Simulation Fellow commencing August 2023 for a period of 12 months. The successful applicant will have an exciting opportunity to have tertiary neonatal as well as significant, protected, simulation and patient safety experience.

Main duties of the job

This HEE supported Fellowship programme is for 12 months from August 2023 and includes a particular opportunity to undertake a Postgraduate Certificate qualification in an area of allied interest and relevance to the post. This position is suitable for out of programme (OOP) experience, with extensive opportunity to build skills in simulation, debrief and education in particular. The Fellow will base this role on a personal background of some experience in simulation and multiprofessional working, using this as a springboard to learn and develop. The Fellow will be able to explore in situ, classroom, small group and larger programme simulations, refining their own facilitation skills. They will be encouraged to explore peer observation modalities for use amongst our simulation faculty to further their skills and abilities in debrief in particular.

Working for our organisation

NICU: Neonatal Intensive Care is provided across two sites at QMC and City Campuses. QMC NICU comprising of 11 intensive care cots and 6 special care cots, provides tertiary level intensive care for neonates of all gestations and is a centre for surgical care of neonates including ENT and Neurosurgery. The City Hospital NICU has 12 intensive care and 12 special care cots. It provides tertiary level intensive care for neonates of all gestations. After completion of expansion, QMC campus would have 38 cots. The individuals in these posts will gain experience in the management of sick newborn infants receiving a full range of neonatal intensive care with training in mechanical ventilation including high frequency ventilation and use of nitric oxide; therapeutic hypothermia and postoperative care.

CenTre Neonatal Transport team provides neonatal transport service for East Midlands Operational Delivery Network (EMODN) and Coventry. It is one of the busiest transport services in the country with about 1600 transports in a year with a provision of high-quality, safe intensive care during transport including active cooling and nitric oxide. It is run from two bases, Leicester and Nottingham with a 24/7 cover for the region. The post would be based at the north base, Nottingham University Hospitals.

Essential criteria
- Full GMC Registration
- MRCPCH Part 1

Desirable criteria
- MRCPCH
- Additional degree: MD, PhD, M Phil

Experience

Essential criteria
- Tertiary level neonatal experience of at least six months
- NLS provider
- Neonatal skills to work at a middle grade in tertiary neonatal unit
- Computing and IT skills

Desirable criteria
- NLS instructor
- Advanced neonatal skills e.g. echo, point of care ultrasound
- Transport experience or training

Experience

Essential criteria
- Evidence of participation in an audit/ QI project and learning from audit
- Evidence of working effectively in team

Desirable criteria
- Audit and/ or QI training
- Attendance at national or international conference/ meeting
- Contribution or leadership role in developing an evidence based guideline
- Presentation in a national or international meeting
- Publication in a peer reviewed journal
