Main Purpose of Job: To be responsible for initial assessments and to provide clinically effective, high-quality service of mental health care to pupils who have a range of **mental health** issues. Supporting pupils with issues ranging from anxiety and depression to personality and eating disorders

**Key Responsibilities**:
1. **Management /professional** a. Holds a recognised membership of a relevant professional body (BACP / PTUK / UKCP / NCS / BPS) b. Use evidence-based practice to develop and maintain a high quality of care to the pupils c. Ensure that a code of confidentiality is developed and adhered to

2. **As a Mental Health Practitioner, you'll need to**: a. Be responsible for initial assessments and delivery of time limited, goal-based interventions to address emotional and mental health needs at an early stage with the aim of reducing longer termmental health problems b. Assess and support children and young people with common mental health difficulties, particularly mild to moderate symptoms of anxiety, depression and behavioral difficulties. You will provide early, brief evidence-based interventions to promptly address emerging mental health needs of children at WCS to improve their mental wellbeing. This role supports the Government’s priority of increasing access to and availability of mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people

c. Use your experience and training to advise and guide on areas such as sleep, hygiene, problem solving and panic attacks. This will include advice on managing anxiety, depression and promoting approaches to improving emotional health and wellbeing d. Advise and signpost staff on further information to ensure that children and young people receive appropriate support in addition to the one to one support that you will provide e. Provide support to whole school mental health and wellbeing initiatives as part of the Pastoral andWelfare team and to contribute to relevant meetings and policy based decisions f. Involve liaising with parents and guardians if you work with children in the Prep School. g. Assess the needs and concerns of the pupil and escalate if necessary to the Designated Safeguarding Lead and/or outside agencies such as CAMHS. You will be expected to decide if the concern is high enough, whether it is necessary to visit A&E

3. **Administrative** a. Maintain meeting records accurately, confidentially and safely b. Keep records to a high standard ensuring the accurate and rapid retrieval of information as necessary c. Record and/or pass on notes of any actions or referrals or meetings with outside agencies. Use internal systems as necessary including iSAMS and Edukey d. Maintain general office procedures

4. **Health and Safety** a. Have an involvement and awareness of health and safety issues within the school affecting staff, children or the environment b. Keep records of reported accidents c. Be up to date with all school policies, especially those around mental health

5. **Liaison** a. Internal
- Work closely with other members of St Andrew’s Lodge to ensure seamless and continuous care, and with parents, academic staff, and school office staff and all other departments as necessary
- Maintain an awareness of the pupils of concern relating to mental health; this list of pupils is shared with staff weekly. Where possible, to join the
Welfare Meeting to provide information about specific pupils of concern and discuss appropriate systems of support and action b. Boarding
- Houseparent, matrons and Prep boarding staff c. External
- School health advisers and other members of the primary health care team
- Social services where appropriate
- GP’s at Wells Health Centre where all of our boarders are registered and pharmacy (as appropriate)
- To liaise with CAMHS as and when necessary
- To refer pupils to a single point of access as and when necessary
