An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Digital Services Team at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust for a Chief Nursing Information Officer. The Chief Nursing Information Officer (CNIO) is primarily responsible for ensuring that appropriate digital innovation is identified and safely implemented to improve the quality and safety of care for our patients. The role serves as an essential liaison between our digital experts and our nurses.

The CNIO provides senior level clinical expertise and transformational leadership to ensure implementation of the digital enablement roadmap, whilst ensuring alignment with the nursing and clinical priorities within the organisation. Responsible for the leadership of the Digital Clinical Team, championing engagement with nursing, midwifery and AHP colleagues, they facilitate safe, clinically led design and deployment of technologies to optimise care delivery models, enable benefits realisation and support ongoing quality and safety outcomes for patients, citizens and staff. They also work collaboratively with key leaders in engaging a wide range of stakeholders to ensure patient, citizen and other health care representation across the wider health economy.

Main duties of the job

The CNIO drives continuous clinical process improvement focused on patient and clinical outcomes and efficiency and ensures the Trust can effectively contribute to national, regional and local objectives. In line with national and local standards, the CNIO is also responsible for the clinical safety of systems and processes in the design, testing, implementation, use and optimisation of technology solutions to deliver improvements in quality and patient safety. This includes responsibility for ensuring adherence to a robust governance framework for the review and development of evidenced based nursing and clinical content for the Trust’s Electronic Patient Record, clinical systems and new digital health technologies.

The CNIO will support a sustainable governance framework for the review and development of evidenced based nursing clinical content for the Trust’s Electronic Patient Record. The post holder will work closely with the Trust’s CCIO in the Local Digital Roadmap (ICS). It will be expected that they be involved in the NHS Digital strategic nursing agenda and the digital patient work so they are informed of the national direction of digital nursing leadership. As a member of the CNIO national network this will provide networking and learning opportunities from other strategic digital clinical leaders.

Essential criteria
- Registered nurse with extensive nursing leadership experience.
- Clinical safety officer trained (or willing to undertake).

Experience

Essential criteria
- Experience of developing and delivering clinical projects, which could include informatics interventions to improve care quality.
- Change management experience related to the planning and delivery of work in a clinical setting with demonstrated success in overcoming resistance to a change in nursing practice.

Communication and relationship skills

Essential criteria
- Effective organiser, influencer, and networker able to persuade clinicians to engage with, implement and embed change to achieve successful outcomes.

Analytical and Judgement skills

Essential criteria
