We are looking for an experienced clinician who is enthusiastic and forward thinking to join our friendly department and lead the Speech and Language Therapy Stroke team. Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Trust is the regional Comprehensive Stroke Centre and this fantastic opportunity will allow the post-holder to build and lead a team and to be at the forefront of Stroke care.

Working in collaboration with other disciplines ,not being afraid to challenge decision making and always advocating for patients and their families are key to this role. Multidisciplinary team working is key to this role and seeking opportunities to continually improve patient outcomes, be actively involved in discharge planning and engage with the pathways in and out of the Stroke Units.

This brand new role is part of the workforce investment into Stroke and is an exciting opportunity to combine highly specialist clinical skills with leadership in designing the way forward for Speech & language therapy.

You will be a dynamic Speech & Language Therapist, with highly specialist skills in dysphagia and acquired communication disorders. The department has established VFS and FEES to support diagnosis and management plans and in-house training is available.
- To lead the Speech and Language therapy service to Stroke including clinical leadership and workforce management.
- To implement 7 days working over a phase period.
- To work as an autonomous clinician using advanced clinical skills to assess diagnose and independently manage complex dysphagia and acquired disorders of communication respectively.
- To represent speech and language therapy in multidisciplinary team settings and contribute highly specialist expertise for the management of patients with communication and swallowing difficulties.
- Communicate and collaborate with all stakeholders
- To use excellent organisational and prioritisation skills and a flexible approach to work practice.
- To carry out instrumental assessment using videofluroscopy and fibreoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES).
- To maintain clinical professional development and engage in research and advancements within the clinical field
- Ensure the health, safety and security of user, self and colleagues
- Support equality of opportunity and access within the service for both staff and patients.
- Support financial and other resource management within the service
- Provide leadership and management support to the wider team

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals is the comprehensive Stroke centre providing tertiary services and comprehensive care to the Lancashire and South Cumbria region. We are a dedicated SLT service with excellent patient-centred care at the core of our values, striving to continuously improve performance through both National, regional and local key indicators. We are part of an active regional Stroke delivery network, which drives quality improvement initiatives and provides training opportunities. You will join a large, friendly team of speech and language therapists covering a range of specialist services. The department is rated ‘GOLD’ on the STAR quality assurance framework, with a strong commitment to evidence-based practice. Videofluroscopy and FEES services are well established, and we are able to offer training in these areas.
