The role of the London Region Pharmacy Aseptics Workforce Programme Lead is to lead on a programme of work to develop and deliver a workforce strategy for aseptic services across London.

The post holder will develop a strategy that will include all stakeholders, including both licensed and unlicensed units and Radio-pharmacy. Supported by Chief Pharmacists and senior aseptic services leads the postholder will work with the 5 ICS across London, to understand the pharmacy workforce issues, challenges, opportunities, and strengths. The post holder will integrate this understanding and awareness into a solutions driven strategy that can be applied and implemented across the London Region.

The purpose is ultimately to develop a workforce strategy that will serve London for the next 5-10 years. This strategy will enable pharmacy leaders across London to develop local solutions which will enable them to meet the demand for aseptic services.

The role will evolve as needed to support aseptic workforce developments as they develop across the London Region.

The post-holder will be required to have a detailed understanding of pharmacy aseptic services and the roles undertaken by the different members of the pharmacy team in delivering these services. Aligned to this they will have to understand and appreciate the workforce issues confronting the NHS in the coming years and the wider strategies being adopted to address these.

Strategic Development and Professional Leadership
- Working with stakeholders and ICS across London, to lead a scoping project which will enable a full understanding of the pharmacy aseptic workforce issues, challenges, opportunities, and strengths across London.
- In partnership with system partners including NHSE, develop, lead, and implement a strategy for the development of a sustainable workforce model for aseptic services.
- Work with the other ICS Pharmacy Workforce Transformation Programme Leads, to share best practice and promote efficient and effective regional collaborative working.
- To engage with and support the work being undertaken nationally to address aseptic workforce issues.
- Provide effective clinical leadership, delivering the strategic workforce development model of the aseptic pharmacy workforce within the ICS and the wider London region.
- Contribute to the vision of the ICS NHS education, training and workforce development plans.
- Be an advocate and a positive role model, by promoting leadership that inspires, motivates and empowers pharmacy staff and demonstrates the values of the NHS

Quality and Safety
- Emphasise the importance and promote the development of a quality learning environment for all learners.
- Support the development of local and regional innovations to train the future pharmacy aseptic workforce.
- Support ICS’s to develop educational quality assurance processes and systems across pharmacy sectors for education, training and supervision.
- Work with stakeholders across London to develop sustainable cross-sector training initiatives that meet the needs of employers and trainees, for example developing local faculty groups and access to appropriate resources, and to work through with stakeholders the complex workforce issues that are currently being confronted and find strategic, sustainable solutions.

Scholarship, research, and development
- Collect, analyse, and present information and feedback on initiatives to assist in the development of the aseptic services workforce.
- Scoping and research of innovations and stakeholder opinions to inform development of education and training strategy and implementation across the London Region.
