Job Overview:
**General purpose of the post**

To be an approachable link for clients of Sunrise and other local community members to sources of information and advice and to support them to access help in resolving problems and issues

This role includes supporting individuals for whom English is not the first language with the need to get information translated into languages such as Mirpuri, Panjabi, Hindi and Arabic.

**Key tasks**

**Access to information**

Build relationships with clients of Sunrise and other community members using sensitive listening and questioning skills in order to allow clients to explain their problem(s) and issues.

Train as a Community Help Information Point (CHIP) Champion for Citizens Advice.

Direct clients to Citizens Advice and other sources of information and advice to help resolve problems and issues. If required to interpret and communicate the relevant information.

Act for clients where necessary by negotiating, drafting or writing letters and telephoning.

Negotiate with third parties such as statutory and non-statutory bodies as appropriate.

To assess and advise the relevant agency where further support is needed and offer guidance around referring the user onto more suitable provision.

**Interpreting support, as required**

Providing users with clear accurate and exact translations of written materials, and interpretations of accurate verbal communication, in relevant languages.

Providing accurate interpretations of questions, answers, statements, arguments, explanations and other forms of verbal communication.

Rendering sight translations [M1] of documents and other written materials.

Interpreting accurately with no additions or omissions.

**General**

Ensure that all work conforms to required quality standards

To minimise risk to users by identifying, reporting and following up any safeguarding concerns.

**Partnership working**

To proactively liaise, communicate and negotiate with internal and external specialists and external agencies in order to maximise client support services, resources and funding.

To take personal responsibility for a professional approach that enhances the reputation of the Sunrise MP service at the project both internally and externally.

**Administration**

Maintain detailed case records for the purpose of continuity of casework, information retrieval, statistical monitoring and report preparation.

Produce, maintain and record accurate, relevant and up to date information including recording all contacts with clients appropriately to promote effective service delivery and evaluation. Ensure recording systems are up to date for periodic service reviews and service development and that user information is recorded in line with the GDPR.

**Professional development**

Prepare for and attend supervision sessions/team meetings/staff meetings as appropriate.

**Other duties and responsibilities**

Carry out any other tasks that may be within the scope of the post to ensure the effective delivery and development of the service.

Abide by health and safety guidelines and share responsibility for own safety and that of colleagues.

To carry out such other tasks where appropriate as determined by the Project manager.

**Person specification - Community Help Information Worker**

**Essential Criteria**
- A good understanding of the importance of enabling access to professional sources of advice and information in order to help community members deal with problems and issues
- Experience of providing support and/or advocacy for people experiencing problems and challenges in their lives
- Understanding of how to work with community members whose first language is not English
- Experience of community engagement and partnership working
- Experience of risk assessment, personal safety planning and risk management
- Understanding of confidentiality issues
- Understanding of safeguarding issues
- Experience of working in a non-directive and empowering way
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Proven experience of managing a caseload and good record keeping
- Ability to work on own initiative and to be flexible
- Ability to work under pressure and to prioritise workload
- Ability to maintain personal and professional boundaries
- Willingness to undertake training
- Computer literacy skills
- Ability to travel around Banbury

**Desirable Criteria**
- Fluency in one or more of the following languages: Urdu, Panjabi, Hindi, Mirpuri
- Experience of working with community members for whom the first language is not English
- Experience of providing interpretation and translation of written and verbal communications into another language
- Crisis management skills and ability to deal with stressful and difficult situations
- Use of a vehicle and a full, clean UK driving licence and willing to work weekends and

evenings if needed

**Job Type**: Part-time

Pay: £10,400.00 per year

Expected hours: 16 per week
