The post of a Rehabilitation Assistant Practitioner (AP) will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to provide appropriate assessment, treatment and discharge planning for patients under the supervision of a senior clinicians such as nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists.

The trainees will be based at Nottingham University Hospital NHS Trust until the National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) opens in 2025, until then you will be based across various departments to gain experience and any training needed.

This role is an apprenticeship, you will be undertaking a Foundation degree during your 18 month apprenticeship in which you will have 20% off the job to undertake training and education with Birmingham City University. This typically looks like 1 day per week ‘off the job’ learning at Birmingham City University where you will complete various modules such as Foundations of rehabilitation, Principles of assessment, Evidence based rehabilitation and Lifelong rehabilitation. The apprenticeship course will have variable forms of assessment and completion of the apprenticeship will occur with successful completion of the End Point Assessment and Practice Assessment Document. You will receive a clinical supervisor and support and training to help you complete this apprenticeship.

The apprenticeship training will support the Rehab Assistant Practitioner apprentice to:
P rocess referrals, undertake assessments and treatment using clinical decision making tools to interpret this assessment information and plan treatment/discharge planning accordingly under the supervision of registered clinicians.

The Rehab Assistant Practitioner will work across the professions of Nursing, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy. Their role will be to integrate rehabilitation into all interactions with patients to optimise their recovery. This will include utilising varying equipment and technology throughout the day; appropriate training and expertise will be provided to facilitate this.

The role will require the post holder to lead group sessions such as education or exercise classes. The post holder will frequently work independently to promote wellbeing, safety and independence within essential activities of daily living, by providing instruction, advice and treatment to the patient and/or their carers.
