We are excited to advertise multiple Assistant Practitioner Apprentice posts within the Radiology Department at Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH).

The apprenticeship is a two year programme to become an Assistant Practitioner in Diagnostic Radiography. Academic study will take place at the University of Derby and clinical training at NUH. Study for this apprenticeship is by day release and funding will be supported by the Apprenticeship Levy.

On completion, you will have obtained the core skills, knowledge, values and behaviours to become an Assistant Practitioner, and be eligible for a post as a Band 4 Assistant Practitioner at NUH.

There is an opportunity to continue to study, in order to become a Band 5 Diagnostic Radiographer. For motivated and caring individuals this is a supported and funded step on the long term career pathway to becoming a Radiographer.

The role of the Apprentice Assistant Radiographic Practitioner is to carry out a limited remit of plain film radiographic examinations under the supervision of a HCPC Registered radiographer.

The post holders will rotate across the QMC, City, Urgent treatment centre and QMC Treatment Centre Campus in order to gain a thorough understanding of the large range of work undertaken within the NUH Radiology Department.

Whilst, this role is primarily a clinical training role there will be a requirement to undertake some duties of an Imaging Assistant, supporting radiographers and patients to ensure that the service is efficient and patient-centered.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be trained to undertake limited clinical imaging examinations, in concert with, and under the supervision of, registered radiographers. The range of such examinations will be confined to standard radiographic examinations on adult patients, who are conscious, co-operative and communicative, and in accordance with locally agreed protocols. Essential criteria
- Numerate and literate to the equivalent of GCSE Grade 4 / C, Maths and English

Desirable criteria
- Level 3 qualification or above (eg. A/AS level, NVQ/QCF 3 in Health and Social Care)

Experience

Essential criteria
- Previous experience of working within a healthcare environment
- Experience of working in a public facing role

Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in a radiology department

Communication and relationship skills

Essential criteria
- Good communication skills

Desirable criteria
- Ability to present information confidently over professional video platforms (e.g. MS Teams)
