Oxford, United Kingdom Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Oxford Spine department as part of the paediatric spine team as a surgical care practitioner. This is a new post that the appointed individual will be able to shape over time that would suit a motivated person with a strong ability to work as part of a team. Experience in paediatric spine deformity and quality improvement would be welcome.

The post holder will be expected to develop a new professional role of a non-medically qualified practitioner across the spinal service with a focus on paediatric spinal surgery. The role is aimed at those who are qualified as surgical care practitioners (SCPs) to help meet the needs of the service. An interest and experience in paediatric spinal surgery is essential.

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country. It provides a wide range of general and specialist clinical services and is a base for medical education, training and research.

The Trust comprises four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.

Our values, standards and behaviours define the quality of clinical care we offer and the professional relationships we make with our patients, colleagues and the wider community. We call this Delivering Compassionate Excellence and its focus is on our values of compassion, respect, learning, delivery, improvement and excellence. These values put patients at the heart of what we do and underpin the quality healthcare we would like for ourselves or a member of our family. Watch how we set out to deliver compassionate excellence via the OUH YouTube channel.

The post holder will work under the direct supervision of a named spinal consultant: supporting surgeons in the operating theatre and during any aspects of patient care and recovery. They will be expected to provide a seamless perioperative high-quality service.

The post holder will supervise and directly manage trainee surgical care practitioners in collaboration with the spinal management team. The role will be supervised by a designated consultant who will oversee their career and ensure ongoing professional development.

The post holder will be expected to hold a RCS PGDip (Tr & Orth). The post holder will continuously progress and adapt to deliver high standards of effective evidence-based care to meet the needs of spinal trauma and elective patients.
