Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom Newcastle University Full time

**Salary**: £33,348 to £43,155 per annum

Newcastle University is a great place to work, with excellent benefits. We have a generous holiday package; plus the opportunity to buy more, great pension schemes and a number of health and wellbeing initiatives to support you.

**Closing Date**: 05 July 2023

The Role

We wish to appoint a 1.0 FTE Lecturer or 2 x 0.5 FTE Lecturers in Contemporary Art Curation based in Media, Culture, Heritage (MCH), which is part of the School of Arts and Cultures. This post is fixed term to cover for maternity leave. Your primary role will be to contribute to the delivery, development and administration of the Curating Art postgraduate course.

We are looking to expand and diversify our team, and we are seeking a talented individual from within the field of contemporary art curation. We are looking for someone who can build on and help expand our current teaching provision, who is passionate about their teaching and would also enjoy working collaboratively to contribute to broader team-taught modules and dissertation supervision.

You will work within MCH, which brings together staff and students with diverse expertise to understand a complex fast-changing world and address public concerns locally and internationally. ‌The unit offers innovative, immersive, and lively learning and research opportunities across the areas of Cultural and Media Studies, Film, Journalism, Public Relations, Museum Studies, Curating Art and Global Heritage Management. MCH pursues socially-relevant research and teaching, working in partnership with museums, galleries, film-makers, community groups, NGOs, and news media outlets. MCH at Newcastle has an outstanding record of teaching and research. Our programmes encourage an interdisciplinary approach to teaching, which regularly achieves excellent student feedback. In the last REF, 82% of research submitted was rated ‘world leading' or 'internationally excellent’.

We are looking for an innovative and inclusive approach to the teaching of contemporary art curation. You should be able to demonstrate an awareness of contemporary critical issues in the field, have an understanding of the many environments in which contemporary art takes place, and practical knowledge of working with artists and audiences in different ways.

It is expected that you will have a PhD and experience of teaching at university level, or commensurate experience in contemporary art curation. We are seeking someone who can contribute to a dynamic teaching and scholarship environment combining theoretical, creative and practice-based teaching of curation.

The 1.0 FTE (or 2x 0.5 FTE) post is fixed term from 1st September 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter to cover for maternity leave.
