Cramlington, United Kingdom UKCIL Full time

**We are looking to recruit a second enthusiastic and committed Care Worker to provide 2:1 close supervision for a 10-year-old girl with a diagnosis of Pontocerebellar Hypoplasia which results in the degeneration of the brainstem and cerebellum and affects neurological development.

**Main Duties** The support will be delivered both at home and in the community accessing age-appropriate activities including going to the beach, where she loves to build sandcastles, and visiting the woods. The child has no danger awareness so very close supervision and support will be required to ensure her safety, especially when near water.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed care worker and somebody who enjoys being outdoors but is equally happy to engage in indoor activities including baking and art on poor weather days. The child can sometimes present with some unpredictable behaviours and has some complex sensory issues, and we require an enabler who can support her in managing this whilst continuing to access appropriate activities. She is non-verbal and has limited methods of communication, so experience in working with children presenting with similar needs would be an advantage.
There is no medication administration required for this role.

**Hours **10 hours per week during term time weeks with an additional 10 hours per week during all school holiday weeks (i.e. 20 hours per week in school holidays).
Some flexibility on the days/times required which can be discussed with successful the applicant. There is one support worker already in post and you will therefore be working alongside them to deliver the 2:1 support this little girl needs.

**Person Specification**
The successful applicant must:

- have experience and a positive understanding about children who have disabilities
- have experience of communicating with children who are unable to fully communicate verbally
- have a genuine interest in working with children with complex needs
- be able to respond sensitively and positively to any changes in behaviour
- have a high degree of initiative
- be punctual and reliable as the young person cannot be left unsupervised
- be flexible
