**Freelance Part Time Dementia Support Worker,**

Beetle Bank Social Farm are looking for a Freelance Dementia Support Worker to join our team and cover sickness and leave as and when required. There may be more regular opportunities in the future. The service supports people living with dementia and other long term conditions to be involved in the running of its social farm.

Beetle Bank Social Farm is a service under the organisation ‘Partners in Dementia’, which is a friendly not for profit social enterprise committed to improving opportunities for people with a diagnosis of dementia. Our emphasis is on providing outdoor, fun, social experiences whilst helping out on a working farm.

**Essential skills**
- To facilitate small group sessions independently, e.g. to plant seeds.
- To enable people with dementia and other disabilities to do the things they enjoyand are able to do for themselves by informally assessing their skills, abilities andsupport needs.
- Have excellent social and communication skills.
- Be friendly, kind, tolerant, authentic, a good laugh and creative.
- Have a keen interest in other peoples lives.
- Some knowledge of how to support people with their emotions.
- Be able to assess the safety and accessibility of any task and its environment.
- The role involves moving and handling furniture as well as using tools (e.g. awheelbarrow), so you will need to be physically fit and well.
- To feel confident around small and medium sized farm animals. You will alsoeither understand or be willing to learn about working safely with farm animals.
- A willingness and ability to work in all weather conditions. We have indoorfacilities as well.
- Own transport, as the farm is not on any public transport links.

**Desirable skills and qualifications**
- Experience of dementia preferred but not essential as mentoring/training wiII be provided.
- An NVQ 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent transferable qualification, e.g. someone trained in drama may think they could apply.
- Our aim is to continue to enable participants with dementia and other long term health conditions to take a lead in the service they are part of, so some experience of this approach will be advantageous.
- Basic knowledge of woodwork, growing plants and/or animals.

**Responsibilities**
- Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of participants and stakeholders at all times.
- Reporting risks, safeguarding concerns and injuries to appropriate person.
- Liaising with lead practitioner, the farmer and family care partners.
- Undertaking mandatory training: Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults etc.
- Complying with all Policies and Procedures.
- Attend staff induction prior to commencing work.
- Undertake a DBS check through the organisation and updating as required.

**Other information**
- Location of role: Beetle Bank Social Farm, Beetle Bank Farm, Murton, York, YO19 5XD
- Pay rate: £14.00 per hour.
- Days and hours of work: as and when required on Tuesday’s and/or Wednesday’s between 9.30am and 4.30pm.
- Unpaid holiday leave: up to 9 working days per year (4.5 weeks)
