Level 2 Critical Care (HDU) Trainee Advanced Practitioner (tAP) and/or Advanced Practitioner (AP)

Trainee AP Band 7 30-37.5 hrs per week

or

AP Band 8a 0.8wte 30 hrs per week

If needed the successful applicant will be funded to complete a Masters pathway in Advanced Clinical Practice and will receive their clinical training and support. The post holder will work towards developing the complex levels of judgment, discretion and decision making necessary to provide expert clinical care within the specifically defined competency framework under the guidance of their Consultant Mentor(s).

The post holder will join an experienced, innovative and passionate team which is continuously striving for improvement. With a focus on the four pillars of Advanced Practice, you will be required to achieve and demonstrate activity across all pillars. The successful applicant will be required to plan and manage their own workload and the workload of the service.

The successful applicant would be expected to have excellent clinical knowledge to support technical and non-technical tasks, as well as excellent communication skills in order to coordinate and undertake a full clinical assessment including history & examination of the new critically unwell or deteriorating patient.

Managing and securing airway up until intubation

Management of patients receiving level 2 critical care support (examples include but not limited to: High flow therapy, Acute Non-invasive ventilation, inotropic infusions, intravenous bronchodilators, insulin infusions)

Venepuncture & cannulation

Independent Non-Medical Prescriber

Formulation of differential diagnoses, appropriate investigation and management plan

Undertaking a variety of advanced clinical skills

The coordination of advice calls to assist in the clinical decision making.

Facilitate good handover of information between the wider MDT

Opportunity for additional role development and areas of interest, such as governance, education and training, and research.

Effective team working including the support and development of colleagues through role-modelling, coaching, and team leadership
