They will commence role as a training band 7 (i.e. band 6 until completion of modules)*


To provide high-quality, patient-oriented care for patients diagnosed with spinal cord injury (SCI), as part of an integrated model of care in the Severn region and parts of the South East region within the catchment area of Salisbury Spinal Cord Injuries Centre.


To provide direct care and clinical advice for patients with traumatic and non-traumatic SCI in a designated sub-region from the point of diagnosis through to lifelong support, having a key role in ensuring seamless, co-ordinated and timely approach to care and rehabilitation.
To use a high level of clinical expertise in their specialism to provide support, education and training for medical, nursing and therapists' teams and other healthcare professionals involved in the direct patient care of people with a spinal cord injury, in any setting in the catchment area.


To work as part of a wider South West SCI Clinical Network, providing services across the catchment area of Salisbury Spinal Cord Injury Centre, including cross-cover where necessary and sharing resource and expertise to ensure equity of access and provision.


To support the delivery of care through visible clinical leadership, working in partnership with patients, families and MDT colleagues wherever patients with SCI are cared for in the region.


To establish clear lines of communication with the specialist team at the Spinal Cord Injury centre, Major Trauma Centres and all services where SCI patients are treated, to ensure continuity of multidisciplinary management of patients.


MDT working with and receive clinical supervision as required from designated local consultants in Rehabilitation Medicine.


Culture of collaborative partnership working for the delivery of equitable, high quality patient-centred care, negotiating with others to achieve the best outcomes.


To engage with local opportunities to improve pathways e.g. through 'patient passports'.


To have visibility in the local health community so that when SCI patients have new healthcare needs treating teams can make contact and seek advice if needed.


To communicate effectively with patients, carers and other healthcare professionals, to maximise rehabilitation potential and to ensure understanding of SCI. To assess capacity and gain valid informed consent whenever possible and to work within a legal framework with patients who lack the capacity to consent or decline treatment.


To communicate complex condition related information to patients, their families, carers, health professionals and other agencies working with patients with SCI.To maintain comprehensive and accurate assessment and treatment records in line with legal, professional and organisational requirements and to provide timely written reports when required to support appropriate care decisions and avoid delays in transfer of care.


To ensure that expert clinical knowledge and skills are shared with the South west SCI Network and all providers of care to SCI patients throughout the lifelong patient pathway.

Audit / Quality Improvement / Governance experience
Clinical skills relevant to role of Spinal Cord Injury ANP
At least 2 years (based on whole time equivalence) advanced speciality training within this portfolio.) and/or extensive experience caring for spinal cord injury patients
Evidence of professional and personal development of others
Evidence of multidisciplinary working with evidence of being a 'team player' as well as being able to work independently
Non-medical prescriber
