Summary

We are the public body that looks after England's historic environment. We champion historic places, helping people understand, value, and care for them.

We are currently seeking an energetic individual to join our regional team to become the "Head of Advice, London & South East".

The Head of Advice will be responsible for leading the day-to-day running of Development Advice and Listing work in the London & South East Region.

What you will be doing:
Work across the region, and in conjunction with the other regions, to produce key processes and results, support national standards and consistency, and achieve continuous improvement.

Establish effective relationships with key external stakeholders, in line with regional strategies for involving stakeholders, to make sure that the historic environment plays a full role in sustainable growth. This includes building a supportive and receptive audience for our advice.

Together with the Regional Director and the Head of Places and Partnerships, provide effective collective leadership across the London & SE Regions. In particular, work together to achieve high standards across all our regional advice.

Guide your teams to incorporate the goals of the Historic England Future Strategy and Corporate Plan into their work.

Lead your teams to reinforce a supportive and inclusive culture that supports innovation.

Deliver a consistent experience for customers by ensuring that all of HE's work in London & SE is fully integrated, meets customer needs, and offers advice that is clear, easily accessible, and timely.

Quality assure advice produced by the regional team to ensure it is consistent with the corporate ambitions and priorities, national standards, and performance targets.

Work closely with other HE Groups (Policy and Evidence, Public Engagement, and Business Improvement) to achieve key results, such as national and regional projects and programmes.

Play a lead role in strategic resource planning across Historic England, including by making and implementing decisions on resource prioritisation for advice work across the north.

Take responsibility for the operational management of the Development Advice and Listing Teams in London, line managing the relevant team leaders.

Please note that:

- The role requires regular travel to sites not serviced by public transport
- The role may require occasional attendance at community and other meetings which could be in evenings or at weekends.

Who we are looking for:

- Proven experience of setting up, managing and leading multi-disciplinary teams in a high-profile service area.
- Experience of quality assurance, and driving performance improvements, including transforming processes.
- Experience of resource allocation, and the prioritisation and management of workloads.
- Broad knowledge of the history and historic environment of England
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills capable of building effective relationships spanning a range of audiences.
- An ability to think strategically and to prioritise the bigger picture
