Pathology Reception Supervisor
Pathology is at the heart of healthcare. Many roles are described as full of variety with no two days the same - but for this role it's actually true
It's a very diverse role, crammed full of different activities from undertaking reception duties to receiving samples and everything in between. We really are looking for someone fabulous to join our Pathology Laboratory team and be at the forefront of healthcare in our hospital - we are looking for you
We know the job title may sound complicated - but you do not need to have previous experience to do this role. We have an outstanding training programme & will ensure that you are confident & competent to perform all of the required duties as we want you to join us and absolutely thrive here.
This isn't a typical behind a desk job - you will never be bored & will certainly achieve your daily steps. Your self-motivated nature and effective team working skills will enable you to thrive as the Supervisor of our Pre-Analytic Processors working in our Pathology Reception area in the heart of the Royal Preston Hospital.
Your effective communication skills will also be key as you will liaise with a wide variety of individuals within & outside of our department using a wide variety of systems... just imagine...you will be talking to a Neurosurgeon, then a technical engineer followed by a cleaner. Talk about keeping things interesting
We have 10,000 fantastic people working hard to deliver quality services to our patients. Whatever your role, you help look after 370,000 people in our local area & give specialist care to 1.5 million people across Lancashire & Cumbria.
Working with us gives you the knowledge and sense of pride that every activity you do genuinely does make a difference to support our patients & staff, ensuring we keep thriving & delivering outstanding healthcare right across our local towns.
You'll have access to varied development opportunities, learn new skills, meet fab people & do things you'd never have done. You'll learn about working in a hospital, interacting with people from all different roles to build skills & enhance your career path.
You'll make an impact, be challenged to think differently, be bold & help innovate to keep improving things. Everything we do centres around patient care and enhancing their experience which means your role is pivotal and something really to be proud of.
**Duties will include, but not be limited to**:
Supervising a team of staff based on Pathology Reception
Performing appraisals & probationary reviews
Providing training & ensuring that staff are given time/resources to complete all mandatory training
Receipt & sorting of biological samples for the Pathology Directorate;
Ensuring that laboratory consumable supplies are maintained to the wards & to all of the GP Practices in the Greater Preston & Chorley & South Ribble PCN's
Ensuring that urgent work is fast tracked appropriately through the department
We are a busy, modern, and well equipped UKAS accredited Laboratory, which provides specialist services to Plastics, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Renal, Trauma, Orthopaedic and Cancer Care in addition to the routine services.
Whilst the role is primarily based at Preston, you may be required to work at our Laboratory at Chorley Hospital to cover absence
The post is a full time position and may include weekend cover. A flexible approach to working hours is necessary, including covering bank holidays when required - after all, we are a hospital and our services run 24 hours a day 365 days per year.
