To provide independent one to one statutory and non-statutory advocacy in accordance with the agreed individualised approach and legislative requirements.

**Key Tasks**
- Provide Independent Mental Capacity, Independent Mental Health and Care Act Advocacy to a caseload of clients in line with the applicable legislative requirements
- Provide short term strength based generic and complaints advocacy support to a caseload of clients in line with their instructions including; listening to /establishing clients views and wishes and the way that they wish to be supported, helping them to find and understand information relevant to their issue, exploring their options and helping them to make their own decisions
- Provide non-instructed advocacy to those with capacity issues.
- Undertake initial assessments of new referrals and assess risk when arranging meeting venues/home visits
- Deliver Independent Mental Health Advocacy on mental health inpatient wards
- Record case activity and case notes onto the case management system
- Keep abreast of advocacy best practice and emerging case law and legislation
- Signpost clients to alternative sources of support as appropriate
- Support the exit of clients from the service including gathering monitoring information
- Support the recruitment and induction of new staff, students and volunteers as requested
- Support and supervise students and volunteers as requested
- To develop and maintain good working relationships with a wide range of professionals/organisations, including other advocacy providers
- Promote the service and organisation in a variety of settings
- Work towards and achieve the IAQ diploma
- To take personal responsibility for the achievement of allocated KPIs
- To carry out day to day administration relevant to the role
- To provide contingency support throughout the service as required
- To undertake such duties as may be assigned by the Team Leader

**Quality Performance**
- Updating manual and computerised recording systems/customer records with relevant data.
- Responsibility for completing reports to a high standard, analysis of data and submission in line with requirements.
- Work within the organisations Quality, Information Governance and Caldicott Principle Policy. This will include following processes in line with the ISO Quality management System and the Information Governance Tool Kit.

**Personal support**
- Attendance of regular n-compass staff and Advocacy Service team meetings.
- Develop and attend a regular informal peer support mechanism with others throughout the organisation.
- Attendance of regular operational meetings, supervision, and annual appraisal.
- Complete a personal development plan in conjunction with your Line Manager and take responsibility for achieving its actions.
- Work within organisational policy at all times.
- Actively participate in identified training relevant to the post.

**Health and Safety**
- Comply with health and safety implications through ensuring safe systems of working practice.
- Take personal responsibility for own health and safety and report incidents and potential hazards as necessary.

- Experience of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable clients
- Experience of delivering IMCA and IMCA DoLS
- Experience of using monitoring tools and keeping up to date records
- Experience of working with a caseload of clients, within set case parameters
- Experience of working in a busy environment
- Experience of setting and maintaining appropriate boundaries with clients, families/carers and professionals
- Experience of working with people with disabilities, mental health issues and/or who have limited/no verbal communication
- Experience of utilising legislation and policy within case work
- Experience of using Microsoft Office e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook
- Experience of creating accessible self-help materials
- Experience of inputting data into CMS
- Experience of providing non instructed advocacy

**Education /Qualifications**

e.g. academic or professional

qualifications.
- Evidence of relevant training/specific knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act in relation to IMCA, DoLS and/or working towards Independent Advocacy Qualification
- Independent Advocacy Qualification units 305 & 310
- Recognised training delivery qualification
