We are looking for a highly motivated individual to fill the post of Practice Educator within Diagnostic Radiography team. You will be a self-motivated individual who will be passionate and committed to education.

This role will include duties to aid the development and co-ordination of student training, including apprentices both clinically and in the Role of Practice Educator.

To act as a link person with Higher Education Institutes (HEI’s) and other external education providers, as well as with the wider education team within the hospital. You will also liaise with the Practice Educator at Bedford to enable equal opportunities for education cross site and to support each other in this role.

To directly manage students whilst on placement, providing both educational and pastoral support.

To support the Imaging department to develop and co ordinate all aspects of training for students, apprentices and Imaging staff.

To act as a link person with HEI's and other external/internal education providers.

Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital services to a growing population of around 700,000 people living across Bedfordshire and the surrounding areas across two busy hospital sites in Bedford and Luton. - Act as a role model in providing leadership, motivation and vision to contribute to the development of skills and expertise within the Imaging Department.
- To act as the Senior Radiographer in charge of the department when on clinical duties. To act as supervisor to all staff in the area of work.
- Promote a clinical environment that is conducive to learning, demonstrating effective communication and interpersonal skills and ensuring that the environment meets the HCPC standards for Pre-registration students.
- Maintain personal and professional status by ensuring own development meets the requirements of the HCPC and the department. Act as the link between HEI for clinical placements and reviews for undergraduate students and for apprentice radiographers.
- Organise timetables/assessments for students whilst on clinical placement in conjunction with student team and modality managers
- In collaboration with the Imaging Team and Modality Managers, review and identify the education, training and development needs of all Imaging staff, taking into account individual’s knowledge, skills and experience. Use this information to assist the Imaging Operational Manager with completing the Trust’s training needs analysis for the department.
- Book training courses in collaboration with Imaging Operational Manager/Modality lead
- Communicate in an effective and timely manner with the Senior Imaging Team in order to ensure training needs of the department are being met, recorded and monitored effectively.
- Provide supervision and mentorship within scope of clinical competency, which is underpinned by theoretical specialist knowledge and practical experience within the Imaging team to support staff
- Contribute to the appraisal process within the Imaging Team in ensuring that the development needs of staff are identified and incorporated into the Trust’s training needs analysis
- Review and evaluate educational programmes attended by clinical staff and monitor the effect on staff development within the department
- Arrange programme of tutorials with Radiologists/Reporting Radiographers and wider stakeholders (ED team/cancer team etc)
- Encourage reflective practice by providing support and guidance to staff and leading by example
- Represent the Imaging Department at local and national networking groups as required by Trust
- Attend and participate in Trust and Directorate meetings as required for the post
- Assist in exploring more efficient and effective ways of providing a high standard of patient care and utilisation of resources (skills and knowledge).
- Actively contribute to local audits against quality performance standards and contribute to action planning to address gaps found.
