**Is excellent communication ‘Your Thing’?**

We are looking for a great written and verbal communicator, with at least two years’ agency or in-house internal communications experience, to join our Corporate Communications team with agile working options. With our colleagues based at a number of locations across the north, you need to be willing to travel and experience our services for yourself.

Connecting millions of people and communities across the North is our mission. With 2,500 trains a day, we connect people to jobs, friends, family, and the wonders of the North.

We're improving rail travel, enhancing the experience on board and at stations. Customers are at the heart of our business as we improve performance and create a better way

to go.

We're driving economic value and sustainable growth for the North and its people. Our commitment to the environment means reducing our impact and enhancing the world around us.

Make a difference. Make it last. Make it easy. Make it happen. Make it yours. These are our values.

Ready to make them yours? Join us on this journey.

**About the role**:
With over 7,000 people, spread across the North, Internal Communications plays an important part in how colleagues feel working for Northern. We have been working hard to connect all our colleagues with Northern and build our communication channels but there’s more to do. With so much going on at Northern we need another pair of hands to help us.

At Northern, our vision is to make a positive impact on the north, all we do and for all we serve. To make this vision a reality we have significant business plans to make sure that our customers are at the heart, our people feel valued, we’re achieving operational excellence and have sustainable growth. We need to make sure that we’re sharing this with, and involving, our colleagues in our plans from the outset - such as replacing our ageing fleet, making it easier for customers to buy tickets and improving accessibility throughout the whole customer experience.

Have you got the Internal Communication experience, knowledge and bags of energy to help us?

If this sounds like your thing, we’d love to hear from you.

**Key responsibilities**:
This is a varied and challenging role, but here is a taste of what your day-to-day activities could include:

- Managing Northern’s in-house newspaper for colleagues - from finding and writing stories, editing layouts and booking photographers, to organising print production and promoting the finished product.
- Developing and implementing engaging internal communications plans for a wide range of business projects
- Supporting business projects by providing best practice advice to ensure communications are consistent and aligned to Northern’s plans
- Planning, writing and editing engaging, relevant, and factually accurate copy for a variety of internal channels.
- Working with a fun, enthusiastic team of professionals, who will support you in developing your career and skills.

**About you**:
You will need to have relevant communications experience in an agency or in-house setting, because we need someone who can start helping the team as soon as they join us You’ll also need to have a relaxed, engaging copywriting style to create content that appeals to our colleagues.

We’re also looking for the following:

- IT literacy
- Experience in using digital communication channels
- Someone who is organised, friendly, and confident about talking to and building relationships with all sorts of people.

**Our Benefits**:
Because we value our people and reward hard work, we’ve created a benefits package that we think you’ll love. So, you’ll be able to make the most of:
Free Travel on Northern services - everyone who works at Northern, plus their partners/spouses and dependents, can travel for free right across our full network of services. *Certain eligibility criteria will apply.
- Defined Benefit Pension Scheme - you’ll rarely find a pension as good as a Northern pension, and we top up your pension with a generous 1.5 times your contribution.
