Preston, United Kingdom Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Would you like to be part of developing an exciting new role in stroke services with the Allied Health Professionals (AHP)? Are you interested in delivering high quality stroke care and working towards a foundation degree? We will help give you the skills and knowledge you need to be a key player in the recovery of our fantastic patients

This post provides the opportunity to work across the stroke pathway alongside the passionate Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language and Dietetic teams. The role involves completing a 2 year academic programme of work based learning in partnership with the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). Trainee applicants will commence employment as a Band 3 and work towards a Band 4 on completion of the foundation degree

As a member of the Stroke AHP team, a day on our busy stroke wards is never boring and may include; attendance at board rounds, management of you own caseload, close liaison with families and external services, seating assessment, cognitive rehab, exercise regimes, carrying out communication and swallowing therapy programmes and ongoing communication and feedback with the AHP teams.

We recognise this area of work may be completely new to you. Don’t worry. Your Foundation degree will be augmented by a robust induction and supervision programme with ongoing development needs identified and actions planned throughout your employment with us.

We have 9000 fantastic people working hard to deliver quality services to our patients. Whatever your role, you help look after 370,000 people in our local area & give specialist care to 1.5 million people across Lancashire & Cumbria.

Working with us gives you the knowledge and sense of pride that every activity you do genuinely does make a difference to support our patients & staff, ensuring we keep thriving & delivering outstanding healthcare right across our local towns.

You’ll have access to varied development opportunities, learn new skills, meet fab people & do things you’d never have done. You’ll learn about working in a hospital, interacting with people from all different roles to build skills & enhance your career path.

You’ll make an impact, be challenged to think differently, be bold & help innovate to keep improving things. Everything we do centres around patient care which means your role is pivotal and something really to be proud of.

This is an exciting time for stroke service across Lancashire and South Cumbria and we work closely with the regional network to continually develop ourselves including workforce enhancement to help us deliver 7 day working.

Our organisation, clinical management structure and culture provide a supportive and innovative work environment where you can continue to develop your skills and knowledge and play a key role in the delivery of high quality, compassionate care.

You will work as a member of the Stroke AHP Team assisting in the delivery of Stroke specialist therapy services across the Stroke pathway at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

You will support Registered Therapists in assessing and treating patients with a diagnosis of stroke. In your role you will undertake highly skilled and specialised support work from referrals screened by a member of the Stroke AHP. This may include gathering information for assessments, implementing treatment programmes, and making recommendations for equipment and minor adaptations.

As the Assistant Practitioner, you will use technical and creative skills in the provision of therapeutic activities for individual patients and will be responsible for evaluating and amending treatment programmes and interventions with guidance from the Registered AHP.

You will take responsibility for your own work within a broad framework laid out by a Registered AHP and be responsible for delivering defined Therapy input without direct supervision. You will always have immediate access to a Registered AHP for advice and direction as required.

Come and join us - we know you won’t regret taking the leap
