Communications Officer

Create and edit content for various communication channels, including press releases, newsletters, website copy, and social media posts.
- Build, manage and maintain a contact database for print and digital news.
- Create visual content (photographs and videos) as necessary for inclusion with news and social media stories.
- Distribute and monitor press releases, providing regular reports on coverage.
- Seek out and write relevant student case studies.
- Support internal communication efforts, including creating employee newsletters and intranet updates.
- Provide updates for the organisation's website, ensuring content is accurate and engaging.
- Monitor and engage with social media platforms, responding to comments and inquiries.
- Ensure that editorial guidelines are adhered to and circulated amongst staff where appropriate.
- Assist in coordinating events and press opportunities.
- Assist with proof-reading as and when required.
- Be involved with and work on other writing projects as required.
- Help maintain brand guidelines and ensure brand consistency across all communication materials.
- Be flexible to deal with urgent media enquiries during evenings or weekends.
- Monitor and report on communication metrics, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong storytelling and message development abilities with good attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to adapt communication style for various target audiences and differing mediums along with good copy-editing skills.
- Ability to write engaging press releases, media pitches, and media materials.
- Working knowledge of media monitoring and analysis tools to track coverage and trends.
- Proficiency in using digital communication platforms, social media management, and content creation.
- Ability to develop productive, professional working relationships with internal colleagues, stakeholders and suppliers.
- Working knowledge of Wordpress.
- Ability to manage multiple projects at one time and work under pressure.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work proactively using own initiative.
- A friendly, approachable and confident manner with a can-do attitude.
- Experience of design and photo editing programmes is desirable but not essential.
Monday to Friday, standard office hours
Some flexibility to respond to press enquiries out of hours.
