The Medical Workforce Adviser will lead on NUH's successful Trust Grade Programme which supports recruitment to circa 200 junior doctor roles across medicine and surgery. The post demands excellent time management skills, great organisation and communication.

The post involves managing the rolling recruitment programme from advertising to offer stage. It also involves managing the placements of all doctors on the programme in line with junior doctor rotations.

Close working is required with our recruitment team, pay services, consultant colleagues, post grad and our Junior Doctor Co-ordinator Team.

Main duties of the job

Leading on the Trust Grade Programme strategy

Operationalising the recruitment strategy

Maintain an ongoing grip of the growing establishment against recruitment activity.

Continual evaluation of recruitment processes and support, particularly to our IMG doctors.

Working for our organisation

The Medical Workforce Team provides a number of functions focused on doctors in training, locally employed juniors, SAS doctors, Physicians Associates and Consultants.

We are based across QMC and City working flexibly to support our doctors.

Our team looks after the following:
Revalidation, Appraisal and Job Planning

Manage, maintain and review Junior Doctor rotas across the Trust

Experts in the terms and conditions relevant to our medics

We run the medical bank

We run the junior doctor absence line and maintain an overview of any absence.

Support departments with hard to fill recruitment

Run the Trust Grade Programme

Oversight of bank/agency expenditure

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

**Leadership**

In conjunction with the Medical Workforce Administration Manager, provide leadership to the Medical Workforce Admin Supervisor including objective setting, appraisal, performance management and professional development.

Support the introduction of new and innovative strategies and ways of working to maximise the organisational efficiency of the Trust Grade Programme.

Provide support to specialist project work relating to relevant national and local initiatives including NHSI requirements around agency expenditure and local medical pay related FEPs.

Contribute to the continuous development of policies and procedures relating to the medical workforce

Become expert in medical workforce issues arising from the 2016 junior doctors’ contract and the 2019 amendments and act as a source of expert advice, drawing on emerging local, regional and national developments

Build, develop and maintain close, positive working relationships with colleagues in the wider HR department, in particular the Recruitment team and Pay Services.

Build, develop and maintain positive and productive relationships with Junior Doctors, consultants, Divisional Directors, Heads of Service and other senior staff members.

To attend the Trust Grade Forum as and when to engage with them and take ideas forward about how we can improve our programme, on boarding and induction/shadowing processes.

**Strategic Medical Workforce**

Provide medical workforce information and expertise as required

Provide Medical Workforce input into the People Strategy, contributing to the delivery of medical workforce objectives and targets within timescale across all relevant specialities and work areas.

Represent Medical Workforce / the Trust where required at regional events and initiatives

Lead and deliver on the Trust Grade Programme strategy including recruitment, support, training, and rotations, working closely with the Trust Grade Clinical Lead.

Contribute to the Trust’s Medical Workforce agenda by developing and maintaining an ongoing grip of the posts which we supply a Trust Grade doctor to and be able to provide this in different formats and to a variety of forums.

Design, oversee and run the International Medical Graduate Induction courses throughout the year.

Design and maintain documentation pertaining to IMGs at the recruitment and pre-employment stage, such as information about opening bank accounts, accommodation, how recruitment in the NHS works etc.

Maintain strong links with the other Medical Workforce Advisers; sharing knowledge and collaborating on projects relating to recruitment.

To ensure good induction and shadowing processes are in place to welcome Trust Grades to NUH.

**Operational Medical Workforce**

Liaise closely with Recruitment colleagues to ensure that there are sufficient Trust Grades in the programme to keep junior doctor rota gap
