We are looking for a Mental Health Practitioner withexpertisein assessment and development of robust pathways for people across all vulnerabilities, including substance misuse, Intellectual Difficulties, Neurodiversity, children, and young people who have contact with the criminal justice process through a Police Voluntary Interview / attendance. This vulnerable cohortrequirethe same level of service and support as is beingprovidedfor those detained in Police Custody for signposting and diversion options.

Please note, this post will require Police Vetting

To screen and offer a mental health and all vulnerability assessment people who attend a Police Voluntary Interview and identify a robust care pathway and provide advice to Police regarding any potential vulnerability identified.

Attend police custody suites and magistrates’ courts and provide mental health assessments, advice and identify robust care pathways, for individuals where a potential mental health and or learning disability need has been identified.

To provide the police and court with written information pertaining to the individual in a timely fashion to inform disposal. To work closely and build links with all referring agencies within the Police, court and probation acting as a single point of contact for health.

To address the court in person when necessary in order to advise the court in the disposal, and care pathway of a particular case.To refer to the appropriate team within DHCFT community mental health teams.To make recommendation to Police, the Crown Prosecution Service or court, whether the criminal justice system remains involved ,or diversion is indicated.

To build a good working knowledge of the mental health act in relation to the police, courts and the criminal justice system.Where diversion is indicated, to facilitate mental health act assessments at the police station or court in conjunction with the DHCFT assessment teams.
