**This is an exciting opportunity to join the Liberal Democrat Group on the London Assembly as the Press and Group Office Lead with responsibility for the Group’s strategy and press work.**

Your role will involve working closely with the team’s Senior Researcher who leads on communications and the two Research and Support Officers, including setting and co-ordinating the day-to-day work of the team. You will need to liaise with external stakeholders to ensure that the work of the group is represented and promoted through a variety of media, both proactively and reactively promoting the work of the Assembly Members. An in-depth knowledge and understanding of a variety of media is vital.

You will work across the full range of policy areas and produce policy briefings and issues papers to be communicated internally and externally. This role works closely with the team and two elected politicians in a dynamic, friendly environment. The work is fast moving and varied.

You will be joining the team at a pivotal time with the London Assembly having recently moved to East London to the new City Hall, and as we enter the final year of this Mayoral and Assembly term.

**Principal accountabilities**:

- To generate, using a variety of methods, media coverage for the Group in relation to the range of their GLA work, and to respond to media enquiries effectively, accurately, and quickly, ensuring that responses properly reflect the Member’s views and work.
- To effectively monitor relevant media, and to provide effective and timely advice to relevant Assembly Members, including early warning of potential issues, in relation to media management.
- To provide high quality research and policy advice and support to the Assembly Member(s) within the Group across the range of their GLA functions and oversee the work of the Research and Support Officers, co-ordinating with a wide range of internal and external people and organisations and pro-actively producing policy issue reports to publication standard.
- To coordinate, oversee and supervise the work of the small team providing full support to the Group including policy briefings, communications, office budget and diary support on a day-to-day basis, and to act as first point of contact for the team.
- To act and manage resources allocated to the job in accordance with the Authority’s policies and Code of Ethics and Standards; to realise the benefits of London’s diversity by promoting and enabling equality of opportunities and promoting the diverse needs and aspirations of London’s communities; and to realise the benefits of a flexible approach to work in undertaking the duties and responsibilities of this job, participating in multi-discipline cross departmental and organisational groups and task teams.

**Technical requirements/experience/qualifications**:

- Evidence of working successfully, in a similar role in a high-profile organisation and managing/leading staff.
- Knowledge and understanding of media handling techniques and strategies, in the context of providing press support to an elected politician.
- Ability to utilise the latest information and communication technologies in relation to media issues.
- Demonstrable research skills, to enable quick and effective grasp of information from a range of sources on a wide range of policy topics, and proven experience of policy briefing in a political/public sector organisation.
