The MCA Officer is responsible for day to day planning and delivery of MCA, DoLS and other associated training across Sussex.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about quality patient care, committed to delivering high quality training to clinical teams and willing to get involved in projects to improve and enhance practice.

This post is for someone who has an established history of working competently and confidently with the Mental Capacity Act/Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, Mental Health Act and associated legislation.

An ability to travel to sites across Sussex is essential.

Alongside the delivery of training the role will include researching and advising on legal matters relevant to the job role, participating in projects and delivery of service and related auditing.

The post holder will have line management responsibilities, and must have strong administrative skills as they will oversee and provide cover for an administrative post.

This role may be of interest to someone who already works in a clinical or social work role with an excellent working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act/Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and the Mental Health Act, and who is keen to explore a training and development role.

The post holder will be a key member of the Mental Capacity Act team, working on projects with team colleagues. However the post holder must be self-motivated with the ability to work independently and reassess priorities on a continual basis.

The Trust works with adult and children’s social care to ensure that the integrated service has systems in place to equip staff with the knowledge and skills to recognize abuse, and take action to safeguard and protect vulnerable adults and children and young people. It is expected that all staff familiarise themselves with the appropriate structures and policies and with the Sussex child protection and safeguarding procedures and the Sussex multi-agency policy and procedures for safeguarding vulnerable adults and undertake the relevant essential training and further training appropriate to their role.

To have responsibility on a day to day basis for the delivery of the effective administration of the DoLS ward referral and provide administrative support for MCA Team, where required, including Court of Protection work. To support MCA Administrator post with effective DoLS administration and queries and to provide cover during periods of leave.

To be responsible for the scheduling and delivery of training in the Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and associated legislation in accordance with the training plan.
