Interaction Designer

**About The Role**

As an interaction designer at TPXimpact, you’ll be responsible for designing the best possible experiences to support delivery of public and non-for-profit services. This includes everything from defining product propositions to the details of crafting andbuilding flows, prototypes, user interactions and interfaces. By making sure designs are usable, inclusive and meet the needs of users, you’ll be helping more people across the UK and Europe access the support and services they need.

Currently, we’re solving problems with a range of clients, from social care services to digital land planning, from improving health services to building capability and design maturity in central government departments.

On client projects, you’ll work in multidisciplinary teams, collaboratively with designers, researchers, developers, delivery specialists and clients. Within TPXimpact, you’ll be part of the interaction design team and contribute to how we define and iterateour community of practice with the Head of Interaction Design.

We need more talented designers to join our team with a strong passion for interaction design who want to create a positive impact through their work. We’re looking for people who might be seeking that next level in their career or at a similar level andinterested in expanding their skills and domain experience somewhere new.

At TPXimpact we often work at pace to meet client needs and balance multiple priorities. You may work on two client projects at once (two days per week each) and contribute to internal projects in your non-billable time.

**What you'll be doing**:

- Designing strategy: by contributing to change and making an impact through design by developing product roadmaps, prioritising based on risk, stewarding product decisions and embedding standards.
- Focusing on users: by taking a creative approach to product propositions, defining scope and purpose, based on how it meets user needs and business ambition.
- Framing problems: as hypotheses to be tested and prioritising based on risk and insight.
- Communicating design: through storytelling to demonstrate value and intent, achieving desired outcomes.
- Defining measures: to test assumptions from multiple hypotheses and defining metrics to measure success.
- Testing ideas: by planning and conducting experiments with users and stakeholders to make decisions based on evidence.
- Designing accessible interfaces: by crafting flows and visual designs that are accessible, meet user needs, and deliver the best possible user experience; embedding inclusive design approaches from conception to delivery.
- Establishing design patterns: as well as implementing existing design systems and contributing to their development.
- Collaborating with development teams: by translating designs into user stories, moving products from alpha/prototyping into live at scale and acting on qualitative and quantitative feedback from users of services.

**About You**

**Skills and experience**:

- Designing inclusive and accessible digital interfaces
- Working with hypothesis-driven design approaches
- Designing user flows, journeys, interactions and user interfaces
- Prototyping interactions at the right fidelity (paper, clickable and code)
- Planning and conducting usability testing with users
- Defining success measures for digital products
- Talking about design in a way others can understand
- Establishing design patterns, creating design systems or using existing design systems
- Organising and facilitating design workshops
- Designing collaboratively with non-designers
- Working within multidisciplinary agile teams
- Working across multiple product phases (from research/discovery to live)

**Skills and experience (desirable)**:

- Prototyping in code (HTML/CSS/javascript)
- Using web analytics to inform user needs
- Working in the public sector or to the UK Government Service Standard

**Expectations of an Interaction Designer**:

- Capable, competent, and self-organising.
- Be able to work on solving complex problems with little to no support.
- Trusted to make good decisions yet still understand when to ask for help.
- Professional and demonstrate a proficient skillset.
- Influencing the entire delivery team including project and Delivery Managers; stewarding decisions that impact outcomes.
- Seeking opportunities to demonstrate seniority and may mentor Junior Designers.
