We have a very exciting opportunity for a Band 8a Advanced Clinical Practitioner with a specialist interest in spinal trauma to join our ANP team.

The University Hospitals of North Midlands is a recognised tertiary spine centre and spine hub managing a wide range of acute spinal disorders including major trauma, cancer, infections and cauda equine. The post holder will join a team of 11 spine consultants, 2 spine fellows, 7 spine registrars and generic foundation CT trainees. The team also has 2 spine practitioners managing adult and children’s deformity, 2 practitioners managing malignant disorders of the musculoskeletal system and 1 practitioner managing spinal cord injury patients.

The successful applicant will be a senior nurse/AHP already working in a leadership role with experience of working with spinal and orthopaedic trauma patients in an acute hospital setting/Critical Care environment. The ACP team support the daily review and management of the patients on the ward with multi-disciplinary working with medical and therapy teams from a variety of specialties.

We are looking for a committed team player and who has high standards and is passionate about improving the patient experience.

The post holder will require a high level of team working and communication with the Consultant body, other practitioners and junior doctors.

There will be general ward duties that will require a competence in general and neurological assessment (which the post will help develop) and facilitating discharge and patient flow. There will be a need to maintain the Department of Spine Surgery clinical policies (which will be provided). The role will require communication with other disciplines within UHNM, referring hospitals, orthotics teams and patients and family members. Other key roles include overseeing the management of patients at home with remote consultations.

The post holder will be expected to support the medical teams with medical management of Spinal patients across the UHNM. There will be scope to develop and change the role for the benefit of the patients the service manages once the post holder is in post with mutual agreement. There is an expectation of the post holder to provide leadership and management of the spinal services CNS and practitioner workforce.
