**Job summary**:
An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead on the management of DWP’s Health and Safety Business Partner team. This is a business-critical role where you will be leading on vital Health and Safety policy across the department, within England, Wales and Scotland for circa 90,00 people in over 900 sites, while simultaneously managing your Business Partner team to support the safe implementation of Health and Safety matters for the departments colleagues.

Keeping our people safe and well at work is at the heart of DWPs culture. The People Safety Team have been wholly central to DWPs safe business delivery rapidly responding to changing risk challenges, developing and implementing risk management solutions, monitoring the delivery of policies, and supporting managers and colleagues throughout the business in order to achieve safe working conditions in this most challenging of times. The team is rising to new safety challenges including changed ways of working, and a remodelling of the Estates Operating Model.

**Job description**:
This is a stretching role working in an environment where you will need be able to show your excellent communication and influencing skills as you collaborate fully with both internal and external stakeholders and senior leaders across all areas of the DWP. You will have an opportunity to make an enduring difference.

You will be a strategic team leader who can understand all aspects of Health and Safety, make connections across these areas and be able to draw on expertise as required to provide solutions. In doing so you will promote a safe and inclusive working environment where all opinions and challenges are listened to and all individual needs are taken into account. You will be able to lead a large and geographically dispersed team to deliver solutions.

You will be qualified to at least Level 3 in a Health and Safety discipline and be a member of a relevant professional body. In doing so you already show a passion and enthusiasm for H&S leadership - and display a highly developed knowledge of H&S regulations, management systems and processes. You will have demonstrated a commitment to your Continuing Professional Development. You must be willing to learn at pace to become qualified to a Level 6.

You will have a clear understanding of the importance of H&S in large organisations, operationally and strategically across all aspects of business delivery, whether economic, social, political, environmental, or technical. You will be able to work at pace to deliver solutions.

You will be an excellent and enthusiastic communicator for Health and Safety across a wide variety of platforms, adapting communication to convey complex messages in a way that is easy to understand and build trust and engagement to groups of various sizes. Championing Health and Safety across the department and wider Civil Service.

You will be solution focused in you approach to stakeholder engagement. Able to find the best option by identifying, positives, negatives, risks and implications - managing own and stakeholder needs and expectations throughout.

You will be flexible and adaptable to frequent change. The People Safety Team works flexibly to deliver the service to customers, providing a service that covers the full operating hours across DWP. The service provided will continue to evolve as DWP services meet the needs of customers.

Frequent travel and occasional overnight stays will be required.

Colleagues are currently working a hybrid working pattern with a minimum of 40% of their working time over a four-week period undertaken within a site.

Please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas.
