**Governance Apprentice**

Manchester city centre (hybrid working - spending a minimum of 3 days per week working from the office)

We have a brand new and exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and ambitious Governance Apprentice to join our Board Secretariat team in Manchester. You’ll be immersed into the world of governance, supporting the team with their daily activities (corporate governance, compliance and board administrative-related tasks) and helping ensure our Co-op is continuing to comply with its legal and regulatory requirements.

As a Governance Apprentice at Co-op, you’ll spend 1 day per week studying towards a Level 4 Governance Officer qualification. This will include attending online workshops and undertaking work-based projects with the support of expert tutors. Over the course of 18 months you’ll cover a variety of exciting modules: from law, finance, and accounting to project management and the wider business environment. This will all be underpinned by work-based learning projects and on-the-job training, and you’ll be supported every step of the way by our team of industry experts. This is a great opportunity to gain valuable exposure to our Co-op Board, as well as a qualification that’ll help to kick-start a rewarding career in governance

Once you’ve successfully completed of your apprenticeship, you’ll be given a fantastic opportunity to study further towards becoming a Chartered Governance Professional accredited by the Chartered Governance Institute UK and Ireland (find out more here).

What you’ll do
- Draft minutes and prepare agendas for Co-op Board and Committee meetings
- Assist your colleagues in creating board papers
- Use an electronic board portal to share meeting packs with our directors
- Support the delivery and proof-reading of our statutory accounts
- Review various legal and statutory documents
- Maintain statutory records for our Co-op and its subsidiary entities
- Support the delivery of our Annual General Meeting
- Make sure the relevant governance-related pages on our Co-op website are accurate and up to date
- Help the team with ad-hoc corporate administration tasks and projects
- Spend one day each working week studying towards your qualification

**This role would suit people who have**
- A genuine interest in a governance profession, and an eagerness to gain valuable governance-related experience
- Achieved (or commit to achieving) a Grade 4 or above in GCSE Maths and GCSE English or equivalents
- A high level of attention to detail and accuracy
- Good time management, organisation skills, and the ability to work successfully as part of a team
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Good IT and Microsoft Office skills (e.g., PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
