- We are passionate about Doncaster - it’s a great place to live, do business and visit.
- We have plenty to shout about - Doncaster is the UK’s best connected location, we have many major developments in the pipeline, a vibrant urban centre with a thriving arts and cultural scene, sport and leisure attractions, wonderful green spaces and a fascinating heritage. We firmly believe, as do our partners, that Doncaster is the place to be with a bright future and ambitions ahead of it. But don’t just take our word for it - anyone joining the council, can look forward to expanding their knowledge and skills in a dynamic, creative and nurturing environment while truly making a difference to the communities we serve.
- Public Health is looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person, with a passion for health improvement, to be part of their Wider Determinants Team. The environment we live in has a significant impact on our health and wellbeing and this post will be at the forefront of developing sustainable and innovative approaches to create the right conditions for residents to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.
- The post-holder will work closely with the Council’s Transportation Team as well as schools, other council departments, local councillors, communities and external partners to identify opportunities to introduce permanent School Street closures. The aim of the closures is to improve air quality by reducing traffic outside schools at drop-off and pick up times, creating an environment where people want to walk, cycle or scoot to school safely.
- The project is funded by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).
- The post holder will primarily be responsible for:

- Supporting a whole systems approach to influence the improvement of air quality at primary schools during drop off and pick up times.

Driving forward a partnership approach to encourage a modal shift to walking, wheeling and cycling to encourage more sustainable and active transport modes to and from school.

Developing a clearly defined process for implementation of the School Streets closures ensuring all parties are bought into the scheme and understand their specific role.

Coordinating the implementation of the Air Quality monitoring system, working with the system provider and Doncaster Council’s Air Quality Team.

Producing monitoring reports which include outputs, outcomes and case studies as per the requirements of DEFRA.

Developing and executing a robust evaluation strategy including collecting and analysing data and producing an evaluation report of the project.

Liaising with regional colleagues to share best practice and contribute to the overall evaluation process.
- Further details about the responsibilities and requirements of the role are contained in the job profile and role summary.
- In return for your hard work and dedication, we can offer you the chance to be part of a great team dedicated to ensuring that all people in Doncaster thrive. You will also have access to a variety of attractive employee benefits including competitive leave entitlement, local government pension scheme and access to a range of staff discount and flexible benefits schemes. Visit our Working in Doncaster - City of Doncaster Council page to find out more.

Shortlisting will take place on 16 April 2024 and interviews will take place on 25 April 2024

- Doncaster Council is committed to meeting the needs of our diverse community where we strive to improve the quality of life for all. We are also committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults and expect all staff to share these commitments._
