**Job summary**:
The Grade 6 Head of D&E will line manage three Grade 7 Senior Strategic D&E consultants, two Grade 7 Heads of D&E Expertise and one Grade 7 Head of Strategic Governance and Assurance.

Chartered CIPD membership is desirable or a willingness to work towards.

The role will be based in any of the following People, Capability and Place Group hub locations - Blackpool (Peel Park), Leeds (Quarry House), Newcastle (Benton Park View), Sheffield (Kings Court) and Treforest (Ty Taf).

For roles located in Wales, the ability to speak Welsh is desirable.

**Job description**:
The Head of Diversity and Equity (D&E) will:

- Form part of the wider Wellbeing, Inclusion, Social Mobility and Health (WISH) Senior Leadership Team.
- Provide strategic leadership in support of DWP’s Diversity and Equity ambitions.
- Actively lead the DWP D&E Programme Board, working in partnership and collaboration at a strategic level to ensure join up and delivery of the various underpinning Action Plans.
- Motivate and inspire the team to deliver transformational change both personally, and through colleagues across the People, Capability and Place Function and Department more broadly.
- Be a trusted expert advisor on D&E issues and, in particular, impacts of decision-making to comply with the Public Sector Equality Duty.
- Work with and through others, ensuring implementation of projects and interventions that contribute to the delivery of the Civil Service wide Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, and work related to broader culture change or policy programmes including tackling bullying, harassment and discrimination and the introduction of new policies or guidance impacting diverse groups.
- Analyse data and produce insights to identify opportunities to drive change and make a positive difference, monitoring and evaluating the impact of interventions continuously and recommending a change of direction when needed.
- Confidently and authentically lead the team, building cross-team capability and resilience. Empower the team to deliver, to work through others, to challenge the status quo and to shift the dial on representation and continue to enhance our culture of equity and inclusion where everyone can be themselves.
- Represent the team and its values at the department's and cross government forums, and bring best practice from across Government and beyond into DWP.

**Person specification**:
Key Criteria:

- Strong visible leadership and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence the right outcomes and activity to achieve the Diversity and Inclusion strategic priorities. **(Lead Criterion).**:

- Experience in Diversity and Inclusion or a Diversity and Inclusion practitioner, with the ability to use your expertise to lead the development and implementation of a new Diversity and Equity (D&E) strategy for DWP.
- Demonstrable experience of building the capability and resilience of a team.
- Strong emotional intelligence, adept at rapidly building highly effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
- A committed team player, capable of working flexibly and proactively in collaboration with HR colleagues, Director-General Champions, DWP employee networks and senior D&E leads to ensure diversity and equity priorities are aligned with business outcomes and objectives.
- Evidence of interpreting complex data, working closely with analysts, and using it to create compelling narratives which stimulate action.

Desirable Criteria:

- Associate CIPD membership is desirable or a willingness to work towards.
- For roles located in Wales, the ability to speak Welsh is desirable.
