Due to further expansion and an exciting range of opportunities emerging within the Access and Provision Team, we are looking to recruit an enthusiastic SEND Capital and Place Planning Officer on a permanent full-time contract within our friendly and supportive team. This is a challenging but immensely rewarding job and provides an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of children and families in Swindon.

Swindon is a small unitary authority that is easily accessible and is an exciting and innovative place to work. The Access and Provision Team operates within a newly structured Education, Inclusion and Skills Service within Children’s Services and is centrally located close to the town centre. The wider team also incorporates the School Admissions Team. We are a well-respected, valued team with good relationships with schools and other partners.

The Local Authority has a duty to ensure there are sufficient places to meet SEND needs in the Borough and the role will focus on the development of the SEND Sufficiency Strategy, place planning, creation of additional specialist and alternative provision, and will lead on SEND capital projects to completion.

You will be expected to lead on all aspects of SEND pupil place planning and demonstrate high levels of ICT skills and data analysis. Knowledge of SEND and school organisation / Place Planning issues together with the ability to engage and effectively communicate with a variety of audiences from the world of education would be beneficial.

The school system is rapidly evolving and the successful applicant will need to maintain a thorough understanding of national and local education policy. The role will require the post-holder to report to senior leadership and elected members at the highest level.

Swindon Borough Council are currently trialling a hybrid working model which involves a mixture of working on site and remotely in order to promote and encourage a positive work life balance. An ability to travel throughout the Borough will be required.
