Flooding represents a crucial challenge now and into the future as the impacts of climate change become apparent. Having a strategic overview of all sources of flooding, the Environment Agency has a key role shaping our response to this challenge moving forwards.
- Working as a Flood and Coastal Risk Management Advisor in the Partnerships and Strategic Overview Team, you will be working at the very heart of this organisation, helping to protect people and property from flooding.
- The two roles are extremely varied and draw upon a diverse range of transferrable skills, one will have a Planning focus, the other Permitting.
- Working closely with your own and other teams, you can expect to be involved in:

- Evaluating flood risk assessments.-
- Influencing Local Plans.
- The role is based at Brampton, but post-COVID, we have moved to hybrid working, splitting time between office and home working. The exact split can be tailored to best support the work of the team and the successful applicant's circumstances. The team
- Partnership & Strategic Overview teams develop the technical knowledge needed to deliver a strategic overview of flooding.
- We work closely with others to understand and manage flood and coastal erosion risk in order to benefit communities with the greatest need.
- We work with all authorities and deliverers to specify, plan, fund and create assets to achieve outcomes, including influencing the location and flood management of new developments through spatial planning and flood risk activity permitting.

Experience/skills required
- Essential:
- The ability to develop and maintain good relationships with internal and external customers
- Delivery of work by planning, gathering, and maintaining data/information
- The ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team to make decisions and achieve planned outcomes
- Good organisational, and MS Office skills
- Excellent communication skills

It would be helpful, but not essential, if you had:
- An understanding of the impact of flooding
- Practical knowledge of GIS software
- Degree in a relevant field such engineering, geography, or science.

A full UK driving license is essential.
- You will be willing to undertake specialist/or further training when necessary.
