**Job overview**:
Applications are invited for the post of Functional GI Fellow at Nottingham University Hospitals’ NHS Trust. This post offers the exciting opportunity to join a cohesive and progressive gastroenterology and hepatology department with a strong clinical and academic national profile. We are looking for a dynamic individual with an interest in Functional Bowel Disease. We are open to applicants at or nearing completion of training and also to those who are part way through their gastroenterology training and are keen to learn more in this fascinating and important area.

Nottingham University Hospital is invested to improve patient care, working collaboratively with partners in primary care and across the Integrated Care System. The primary aim of this post is to combine training in advanced functional gastroenterology with service delivery work whilst maintaining the delivery of high quality Gastroenterology clinical activity.

This post is offered initially for 12-months fixed term, but maybe extended dependent upon appraisal. It is suited to a Specialty trainee towards the end of their training and may be counted towards specialist training with deanery approval.

**Main duties of the job**:
Clinical/Academic independence will be promoted and the fellow will be supported in carrying out research and will be encouraged to present this at national and international conferences and publish it in peer reviewed journals.

The successful applicant will be an integral member of our Gastroenterology transformational programme which facilitates the implementation of new pathways, supported by a full project team, senior leadership and commissioners. There is no General medicine, inpatient gastroenterology or on call component to this post.

It is expected that the post holder will work part-time towards a higher qualification during this fellowship in medical leadership although other qualifications would be supported. Course funding is included up to £5,500 per annum.

**Working for our organisation**:
**Detailed job description and main responsibilities**:
This post will be focussed on gaining clinical experience in Functional Bowel Diseases by working in a tertiary referral centre. The fellow will carry out outpatient clinics predominantly with Dr Maura Corsetti (secretary of the BSG NGM Committee, ESNM representative at the EUG Scientific Committee, Co-Chair of the Rome V Functional Bowel Disorders Committee of the Rome Foundation and Clinical Editor of the official journal of ESNM and ANMS), and will work within the GI Physiology lab at the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, where esophageal manometry, pH-impedance, anorectal manometry, colonic manometry, balloon expulsion test, breath tests, scintigraphy, functional MRI are performed. These activities will be expected to occupy 5 half days each week

During the remaining time there will also be ample opportunities for research via the Nottingham Digestive Disease Biomedical Research Centre (NDDBRC) at the University of Nottingham, and for the gaining of experience in service development within the functional service.
