**Functional Skills Tutor**

**Salary**: £28,000 Pro Rata - equates to £24,015.38 per annum

**Hours**: 37.5 a week - Monday-Friday

Role and Responsibilities:
As a functional skills tutor, your primary responsibilities include:
**Creating a Supportive Learning Environment**:Establish a calm and supportive setting where the well-being and skill development of students take precedence.

**Overseeing Student Skill Enhancement**:Collaborate within a structured supervision system to support students' functional skills development, especially within the functional skills classroom.

**Nurturing Positive Learning Attitudes**:Work with students to foster positive attitudes toward learning and the development of practical skills.

**Teamwork with Program Coordinator**:Collaborate closely with the Program Coordinator and other team members to collectively achieve our functional skills education goals.

**Implementing Effective Classroom Management**:Assist in implementing effective classroom management strategies within the functional skills program.

**Awareness of safeguarding requirements** Have a good awareness of safeguarding as set out in our safeguarding and child protection policy

Monitoring, Progress, and Intervention:
Aligned with the Alternative Provision's values, you will be responsible for:

- **Promoting Inclusivity**:Advocate for a diverse and inclusive learning environment, emphasising equal learning opportunities for all students.
- **Supporting Skill Achievement**:Collaborate with the Program Coordinator to identify skill development priorities, take appropriate actions, and evaluate progress toward skill enhancement goals.
- **Maintaining Accurate Records**:Ensure meticulous record-keeping to support the functional skills education process effectively.
- **Engaging with Stakeholders**:Establish effective communication with all stakeholders to ensure the best outcomes for each student.

Support for Functional Skills Curriculum:

- You should possess a deep understanding and appreciation of various practical skills, resources, and strategies that can be utilised to provide additional support for students' functional skills development.

Support for Classroom Discipline:

- Collaborate with colleagues to assess students' needs for additional support in their practical skill development.
- Contribute to the development of action plans for students requiring special assistance.
- Maintain regular communication with students and their families regarding their progress in developing practical skills.
- Collaborate with other teachers and coordinators to cater to the needs of students with varying skill levels.

Support for the Education Program:

- Adhere to all school policies, including those related to child protection, health, safety, security, confidentiality, and data protection.
- Embrace diversity and promote equal access to functional skills education.
- Contribute to the school's goals and development plans in the context of functional skills education.
- Facilitate information exchange with local agencies and be a point of contact for accessing community and specialist support services related to functional skills.
- Report on the implementation of action plans to the Program Coordinator.
- Attend and actively participate in meetings to share best practices and support fellow educators in functional skills education.
- Engage in personal development through training and learning activities as required to enhance your effectiveness as a functional skills tutor.
- Handle all administrative tasks associated with your role effectively.

Staff Responsibilities:

- As a member of the Functional Skills Team, provide support and coverage for fellow educators when necessary.
