Victim Service Assistant Apprentice

Birmingham, United Kingdom Crown Prosecution Service Full time

Are you looking to build your skills to progress further in the future? As an apprentice with the Crown Prosecution Service, you can develop skills in the workplace.

**About the Crown Prosecution Service**

At the Crown Prosecution Service, we’re responsible for delivering justice through the independent and effective prosecution of crime. We’re the principal prosecuting authority across England and Wales - prosecuting criminal cases that have been investigated by the police and other investigative organisations.

**Job description**

As a victim service assistant, you deliver exceptional customer service whilst enhancing how we communicate and engage with victims. You’re responsible for making phone calls, drafting victim letters, and responding to victims’ enquiries in a timely manner. You manage sensitive conversations - demonstrating empathy, integrity and good listening skills.

In this role you help victims understand the decisions we make, the role of the Crown Prosecution Service and the wider criminal justice system, and their rights during the legal process. You develop and maintain effective communications with key partner agencies - signposting victims to appropriate contact points to make sure they receive the support they need. Victims’ needs and welfare are central to your work.

You undertake a six-to-eight-week training plan to ensure you’re fully equipped for the role. If you’d like to build your skills and play an integral part in delivering justice, this opportunity is for you.

**Your responsibilities**
- To answer victims’ queries in a timely manner with accurate and up-to-date information, and to signpost them to other appropriate contacts when necessary.
- To build and maintain good working relationships with external agencies and criminal justice partners, ensuring victims’ needs and welfare are central to your work.
- To record work and activity completed on our case management system and other recording systems - maintaining accurate and confidential case management records.
- To make appropriate adjustments or arrangements to ensure inclusivity and meet the accessibility needs of victims.

**Apprenticeship**

Your apprenticeship allows you to build skills and knowledge through work-based learning whilst in your victim service assistant role. You study, write assignments, and carry out assessments - and on successful completion you gain a recognised qualification of level 3 in customer service.

You’re directly supported during your apprenticeship, with a tutor or skills coach who provides you with guidance and advice for successfully passing your apprenticeship programme. You’re allocated a minimum of 6 hours each week to carry out your apprenticeship work and learning, if you’re doing a 30 hours or more working week (full time or nearly full time working).

**Person specification**
- be at least 18 years old
- hold GCSEs or equivalent in maths and English at grade 4/C. If you don’t already hold these, you can complete them as part of your apprenticeship.

**Benefits**

Alongside your salary of £22,100, Crown Prosecution Service contributes £5,967 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.

We’re passionate about ensuring that we're a top performing organisation and a great place to work. We're a committed equal opportunities employer, creating a culture where you can bring your whole self to work, and individuality is truly appreciated.

We want to ensure our employees can thrive at work and home, and offer a range of support to achieve a balance. This includes flexibility of working hours, flexibility to support caring responsibilities and a flexible approach to deployment. We offer a hybrid working policy. From September 2024, you must spend at least 40% of your contracted hours over a four-week period at court, in an office or another official workplace depending on business need and the kind of work you're doing.

This culture of inclusion is underpinned by our staff networks covering disability, faith and belief, LGBTQI+, race, social mobility alongside our mental health first aiders programme and wellbeing sessions.

The Crown Prosecution Service commits to offer its employees the following experience:

- You can do impactful, purposeful work that’s making a difference to your local communities.
- You are able to learn and grow, with access to the right opportunities and resources.
- We care about your wellbeing.
- We want you to feel valued, trusted and included.

We also offer the following benefits:

- Civil Service contributory pension of up to 27%
- 25 days’ leave, increasing to 30 days after 5 years
- an extra privilege day to mark the King's birthday
- competitive maternity, paternity and parental leave
- flexible working and a family-friendly approach to work
- Cycle2Work scheme, employee savings.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent

Pay: £22,100.00-£24,470.00 per year
