**Job Purpose**
To make a substantial and positive contribution to the strategic direction of the School and College through leading and contributing to world-changing and internationally-competitive research into health inequalities, high quality teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, securing research funding, and providing academic leadership and management within the School/College. To actively engage in relationships with external stakeholders that advance knowledge exchange, public engagement and research impact.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
1. Take a leading role in the development and implementation of research projects into health inequalities that are of international standard, enhancing the College and School’s research profiles in this area.
2. Actively engage in shaping the College and School research and teaching strategies in health inequalities.
3. Act as principal investigator or project leader on externally funded research projects that support a portfolio of research activities and publications of high quality and impact.
4. Create and develop collaborations/partnerships with relevant external stakeholders. Take a lead role in knowledge exchange and public engagement activities which raise the profile of the University, and which support the translation and impact of the School’s research on health inequalities.
6. Actively participate in attracting and supervising high calibre doctoral research students.
7. Provide supervision and mentorship to early career staff assisting with learning support/problems as necessary.
8. Provide campus-based, blended and online teaching, assessment and project supervision to support the postgraduate and undergraduate programmes relevant to the School, in particular the Masters in Public Health. Review student feedback and adapt teaching methods as required to maintain and enhance student satisfaction.
9. Take a leading role in the development of inclusive and innovative approaches to teaching, learning and assessment that recognise the needs of a diverse student cohort, taking appropriate responsibility for managing associated cultural changes and staff support and development.
10. Contribute to the evidence-based and research-led development of curricula as required. Contribute to the embedding of key University priorities such as graduate attributes, professional requirements, work-related learning, transitions support, student mobility and quality enhancement within credit-bearing and non credit-bearing activities.
12. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
13. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School.
14. To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, Inspiring People Changing The World.

**Knowledge, Skills and Experience**

**Essential**
C1 Internationally recognised excellence and reputation in health inequalities
C2 Recognised ability to develop new knowledge and understanding of health inequalities.
C3 Proven ability to establish productive relationships with relevant external stakeholders
C4 Track record of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working.
C5 Substantial track record of published research of international standard compatible with enhancing the School’s submission to the REF
C7 Teaching experience within health inequalities and population health more generally.
C8 Ability to provide academic leadership for strategic development of health inequalities research and collaborations.
C9 Ability to manage projects including financial management, time management, delegation, coordination and supervision.
C10 Commitment to collegiality and team science.
C11 Ability to forge new and effective relationships with colleagues, internally and externally, to foster collaboration across the University and with colleagues in other institutions
C12 Track record of supervising PGT students and/or early career researchers working on health inequalities

**Desirable**
D1 Experience of providing support for career development, mentorship or coaching.
D2 Experience of working with local, regional and national stakeholders and agencies relevant to understanding and mitigating health inequalities
D3 Demonstrated commitment to open research, as appropriate to the discipline, for example through open data, open code, open educational resources and practices that support replication.
D4 Ability to disseminate conceptual and complex ideas to a wide variety of audiences to promote understanding.
