The Patient Safety Co-ordinator will provide specialist knowledge in patient safety facilitating incident reporting and response and operational patient safety management to identify opportunities to learn lessons and drive improvement.

The Patient Safety Co-ordinator will be a champion for the patient safety and incident reporting management systems, identifying opportunities for improvement, you will be credible and knowledgeable on how to use patient safety systems to drive improvement with the confidence and with interpersonal skills to work with clinicians and support staff at all levels across the organisation.

The post holder will have experience in using intelligence from the patient safety system to inform improvement plans and have a proactive ‘can do’ approach, be highly motivated and confident in managing challenging and changing workloads. The post holder will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and will bring a strong customer service approach to their role.

The post holder will actively enable the organisation to learn lessons. This post will require a high level of initiative and resourcefulness to develop relationships and strengthen systems and processes, including data analysis, to take forward the expanding quality improvement agenda.

The post holder will work closely with theIntegrated Governanceteam and staff at all levels in the organisation.

The post holder will undertake a daily clinical review of incidents, to support improvement in the quality of incident reporting, whilst identifying themes, trends or areas of concern that require escalation and liaising with managers and teams as necessary to support effective incident management.

The post holder will as part of the clinical overview work closely with other members of the patient safety team to monitor and track progress of incidents and additional reviews.

Review of the daily covid report and submissions to the CPNS where appropriate.

Management and updating standard operating procedures that support the functions of the patient safety coordinator.

The post holder will act as a point of contact for clinical advice related to incident reporting and management.

The post holder will be an integral partner in the development/initiation/facilitation of Incident Management Training.

The post holder will have regular communication with colleagues internal and external to the Patient Safety Team to ensure incidents are managed/escalated/actioned appropriately. Challenging and negotiating where appropriate by adopting communication methods with teams that promote professionalism and build a rapport with the Patient Safety Team - i.e. being aware of current clinical pressures/incident management skills of team manager/lead
