This is an exciting opportunity for motivated individuals to join our skilled and dedicated Laboratory Medicine Team as an Associate Practitioner.

We have three full time positions (37.5 hours) and one part time position (18.75 hours) available.

Swansea Bay Laboratory Medicine team is keen to modernise our service through embracing new ways of working, are committed to developing our knowledge and skills and actively seek to develop others into a professional multidisciplinary team.

Ideally, you will have a Level 4 Science Qualification (HNC/NVQ/Certificate of Achievement Part I & II) or an appropriate Level 3 qualificationPLUSadditional theoretical or applied training to diploma level equivalent.

The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team of Associate Practitioners, rotating through all areas of Laboratory Medicine.

As part of your duties, you will be trained to operate laboratory equipment to carry out diagnostic tests on patients. We are looking for a dynamic individual with a background in science who is keen to learn and develop in a stimulating and rewarding environment. The Laboratory Medicine Department is made up of Biochemistry, Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Specialist Laboratories. On completion of full training you will be expected to work in all these areas on rotation and contribute to the out of hours rota.

The Laboratory Medicine Department has its laboratories at Morriston, Singleton, Neath Port Talbot and Princess of Wales Hospitals and provides a 24 hour service for blood tests on patients from hospitals, clinics and GP's within the SBU Health Board population.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

The post holder will prepare patient samples received in the Laboratory Medicine Department for analysis. These duties will include entering patient and associated testing details into the Laboratory Medicine computer system. The post holder will also assist in the analysis patient samples, routine analyser maintenance procedures, instrument calibration, quality control and stock control.

The post holder will maintain personal development and competency to meet the changing demands of the job and participate in appropriate training activities and assist support staff development and training.
