**Job summary**:
This role is based within Defence Digital which is the part of UK StratCom. UK Strategic Command (UKStratCom) supports the Ministry of Defence by making sure that joint capabilities such as medical services, training and education, intelligence and information systems are developed and managed across all 5 domains (Land, Sea, Air, Space and Cyber) and also manages overseas joint operations.

**Job description**:
We are advertising for a Project Support Officer who will support Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) capabilities.

PNT is an area of growing importance both within Defence and across Government. It underpins many of our everyday activities such as using Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) to allow us to get from one place to another and to provide accurate timing to synchronise our communication networks and cryptographic systems. A national PNT Office has been established to develop a cross-Government position regarding national PNT requirements and Defence is actively supporting this work.

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that the joint PNT requirements are represented in current and future Defence projects. You will work with a wide range of stakeholders within and outside of Defence, including operators from the single Services, scientists from DSTL, project managers and engineers in Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) delivery teams, industrial partners and other government departments.

Current initiatives that are in various phases of implementation include: state-of-the-art, assured GNSS receiver modules for integration into aircraft, maritime platforms, handheld devices and weapon systems; alternative navigation capabilities that reduce our dependence on space-based GNSS capabilities; specialist facilities to test PNT systems embodied into military platforms; development of PNT Policy for Defence; and how we track and manage operational risks associated with PNT capabilities.

The Project Support Officer contributes to all these areas and some of the responsibilities will include:

- Co-ordinate the working groups to integrate PNT projects across Defence’s functions.
- Act as a single point of contact for PNT queries, maintaining a network of contacts and experts both within and outside of Defence.
- Understand the single Services’ requirements for assured PNT capabilities to help inform the formal articulation of user requirements and capability decisions.
- Develop or contribute to papers, briefings, and presentations for senior decision makers in Defence.
- Coordinate Defence’s risk management process for operational PNT issues to inform Defence’s senior PNT risk owner, Deputy Commander UK Strategic Command
- Propose capability changes for assigned projects, including changes to requirements, doctrine, training, and operating procedures.
- Contribute to the development of Concepts, Doctrine and Policy across the fields of PNT and NAVWAR.

**Person specification**:
Previous PNT experience is not essential as you are expected to build and develop your knowledge within the role through extensive engagement with PNT specialists across Defence.

We are looking for a self-motivated individual, that ideally understands technical documents and specialisms, who can work with various stakeholders in the wider business.

You will need to be confident, able to work under pressure, have good communication skills as well as the ability to use a degree of initiative, and the ability to retain information to prioritise daily duties.

This job role is suitable for hybrid working, which is an informal, non-contractual and voluntary arrangement, blending a balance of attendance in the workplace (your permanent duty station) and working from home as a personal choice.
