Smoking in Pregnancy Specialist

This post provides an opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of mothers and babies. Stopping smoking during pregnancy is the single most important change that a woman can make to ensure the best possible outcome for her baby. Come and make a valuable contribution to the wider ill health prevention agenda and create a lasting impact on long term outcomes for families.
This is a permanent, part time position for 2 days per week.
- Work with all maternity service staff with regard to the smoking in pregnancy agenda.
- Ensure staff maximise opportunities to address the issue of smoking in pregnancy
- Support midwives to undertake the following:

- Identify pregnant women who smoke by undertaking CO monitoring and discussion
- Provide women and their partners with clear, accurate, information on the harms caused by smoking in pregnancy
- Refer pregnant smokers to the local Stop Smoking Service
- Follow up smoking at every contact with women, taking account of feedback received from the Stop Smoking Service in response to referrals made
- Work with the Stop Smoking Service to ensure feedback and updates on a woman’s progress
- Ensure accurate and contemporaneous records of all care given and audit same
