Job Overview:

Position Information:
  • Job Title: Clinical Nurse Specialist
  • Employment Type: Full-time - 37 hours per week - Standard hours from 8/9 AM to 6/7 PM
  • Compensation: Competitive salary range based on experience, along with NHS Pension, 5 weeks annual leave plus bank holidays, and an additional week for continuing professional development.
  • Support Structure:
Work collaboratively with a team of GP Partners, Salaried GPs, Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurses, Physician Associates, and Healthcare Assistants.

Key Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will possess experience as a Clinical Nurse in a primary care environment. Proficiency in infant immunizations and wound management is crucial. Experience in managing chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma, or COPD is advantageous.

1) Execute general nursing tasks as required.
2) Manage medical supplies and ensure the availability of vaccines, consumables, and laboratory materials. Maintain a stock of sterile treatment kits in coordination with the practice manager.
3) Collect pathological samples, including blood samples, and conduct specific tests as requested by GPs, such as ECGs, peak flow measurements, spirometry, and audiometry.
4) Oversee patients with chronic health issues, including establishing and managing various screening and treatment protocols, as well as maintaining an appointment and recall system for patients.

5) Engage in preventive health initiatives such as immunizations, cervical screening, family planning, weight management, smoking cessation, cardiovascular risk reduction, and health promotion activities.
6) Assist and/or support GPs during surgical or family planning procedures or examinations.
7) Provide home visits to patients as requested by a general practitioner.

8) Consider the emotional and social aspects of patient care and communicate these insights to the relevant members of the healthcare team.
9) Prioritize personal safety while performing procedures and recommend safe practices within the organization.

Administrative Duties:
1) Maintain comprehensive and accurate records of all patient consultations and treatments.
2) Collaborate on any practice research initiatives.
3) Gather and compile relevant data for practice reports.
4) Identify any shortcomings in achieving preventive and surveillance targets and propose necessary corrective actions.

5) Assess care needs within the patient population by conducting a practice profile or similar assessment and organize work to effectively address identified needs.

6) Demonstrate the reasoning behind chosen methods to meet patient care needs, evaluate their effectiveness, and make adjustments as necessary.
