Job Overview: As an EHCP Writer, you will play a crucial role in supporting children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in Nottingham, UK. You will be responsible for creating clear, comprehensive, and person-centered Education Health & Care Plans that outline the unique needs and provisions required for each individual. Your role is vital in ensuring that children and young people with SEND receive the appropriate support and access to a quality education.

**Responsibilities**:
Assessment and Collaboration: Work closely with parents, carers, teachers, educational professionals, health and social care providers, and external agencies to gather relevant information about the child or young person's needs, strengths, and aspirations.

Plan Development: Utilize gathered information to write and develop EHCPs, ensuring that the plans are tailored to meet the specific needs of each child or young person, as per the statutory requirements and local guidelines.

Person-Centered Approach: Ensure that EHCPs are person-centered and focus on the child or young person's individual needs, learning outcomes, health requirements, and well-being, with a focus on promoting independence and inclusion.

Compliance: Stay up-to-date with the relevant legislation, policies, and procedures related to EHCPs and ensure that all plans comply with the legal requirements and local authority guidelines.

Review and Monitoring: Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to regularly review and amend EHCPs, ensuring that they remain accurate and relevant to the child or young person's changing needs and circumstances.

Advocacy: Advocate on behalf of children and young people with SEND, ensuring that their voices and preferences are represented in the EHCPs and that their rights are upheld.

Liaison and Communication: Maintain effective communication with all parties involved in the EHCP process, providing updates, progress reports, and responding to queries and concerns promptly.

Record Keeping: Keep accurate records of all EHCP-related activities, maintaining confidentiality and adhering to data protection regulations.

Continuous Improvement: Engage in continuous professional development to enhance your knowledge and skills related to EHCP writing, special educational needs, and best practices in supporting children and young people with SEND.

Qualifications and Requirements:

- Experience in writing Education Health & Care Plans or similar documents related to special educational needs is preferred.
- Knowledge of the legal framework and legislation governing EHCPs in the UK, especially in the context of Nottingham.
- Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail to create accurate and comprehensive EHCPs.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple cases and meet deadlines.
- Empathetic and sensitive approach when working with children, young people, and their families.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a range of professionals and stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for children and young people with SEND.
- Knowledge of local services and resources available to support children and young people with SEND in Nottingham is advantageous.

As part of this role, you will receive support from a line manager and undergo in-house training. The team places a strong emphasis on clinical support and supervision.

The key objectives of this position are:
To provide high-quality occupational therapy service to children and young people with identified needs, including those specified in their EHCPs.

To conduct specific assessments and interventions with children and young people, either in person or via video calls, as delegated by a senior Occupational Therapist.

To independently manage a caseload and work in diverse settings to address the occupational therapy needs of children and young people, including those outlined in their EHC plans.

To work with Occupational Therapy Assistants in implementing therapy programs for identified children and young people.

To carry out standardised assessments and interventions in various settings, such as homes, clinics, or nursery/school environments.

To prepare written reports detailing assessment outcomes and treatment goals, some of which may align with EHCP outcomes.

To develop practical skills, such as fine motor skills, gross motor skills, coordination skills, and sensory skills, under the guidance of a senior Occupational Therapist.
