**Digital and Social Media Co-ordinator - Job Description**
The Faraday Institution is the UK’s independent institute for electrochemical energy storage research, skills development, market analysis and early-stage commercialisation. Our mission is to make significant scientific breakthroughs in battery technology research in the global race to electrification with the Government target to cease sales of petrol and diesel car by 2030 (replacing them with sales of electric vehicles) in the effort to tackle climate change. We manage large research programmes across more than 27 UK universities involving 500 researchers and 85 industry partners. You would be joining a small but vibrant head office team. We are based at the Harwell
Science and Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire.
The Faraday Institution is looking to appoint a dynamic, creative self-starter to the role of Digital and
Social Media Co-ordinator. Their mission will be to maintain and grow an online presence for the organisation through the use of digital media software, writing and visual communication skills. as well as provide support for the activities of the wider team. This tech-savvy individual will run social media and web content delivery and work with the Engagement and Education team to ensure the smooth running of certain online events organised by the Faraday Institution, in order to maximise visibility and impact.
The role would suit a resilient and confident individual who can operate largely under their own initiative and who thrives on working in a fast-paced environment on a variety of projects. The role presents a significant development opportunity for an individual seeking to get into or developing a career in science communication, and would offer plenty of opportunities for training, mentoring, skills development and support from a friendly team.
**Roles and responsibilities**
In order to enable the Faraday Institution to reach identified target audiences, build community, communicate about its pioneering research, attract and train the next generation of battery scientists as well as raise awareness and visibility, the Digital and Social Media Co-ordinator will be responsible for:
- developing and maintain websites, blogs, electronic newsletters, audience surveys, event registration pages, social media campaigns and other digitally produced material
- leading on the writing and posting of audience-appropriate content on social channels
- helping with planning and providing technical support for the delivery of online webinars and events
- analysing and reporting back on the growth of the organisation’s digital and social channels, including social media platforms, campaigns and events the organisation runs in order to inform best practice
- staying abreast of digital and online trends to make the most of emerging technologies and communications channels
- developing story telling content that reflects the success and impact of initiatives
Our work is changing at pace to adapt to current circumstances and opportunities and as such this role will constantly evolve to encompass new tasks with plenty of potential for increasing levels of involvement in digital strategy formation and planning.
**To be successful / key competencies**
- Creative writing and storytelling skills and demonstrable experience of writing engaging and informative content, ideally for a variety of audiences and channels.
- Tech savvy. Experience with or quickly adapting to using a wide variety of online tools such as WordPress, Mailchimp, Eventbrite, CRM systems, SurveyMonkey, Canva, Zoom Webinar, etc.
- Comfortable creating social media content (mainly Twitter, LinkedIn), ideally with demonstrable record of delivering dynamic and creative content (both written and visual).
- Confidence and professionalism to represent the organisation through social media and connecting with and interacting/interviewing a wide variety of people, including senior academics and researchers working in industry.
- Quick learner and self-starter
- Ability to work remotely, independently under own initiative as well as collaboratively
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and know when to ask for help
- Good analytical skills and confidence at using Excel spreadsheets
- Good communication and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrable experience of working flexibly, including the ability to adapt to new situations, prioritise workloads and manage deadlines
**Highly desirable**:
- A scientific background and degree qualification or equivalent, or experience with science communication

- Location: Blended working from home and based at Harwell Science and Innovation Campus, near Oxford, UK (at least two days a week in the office)
- Salary: £25,000 - £32,000
- Start date: Mid-September or as soon afterwards as possible
