Clinical Educator

The post-holder will take a key operational role in the delivery of professional education to medical students and children’s community services (CCS) staff.
The post holder will identify, co-ordinate and facilitate educational opportunities and clinical skills to medical students and CCS staff, develop strong links to clinical development leads and Universities and facilitate the provision of research-based care for children’s services.
The post-holder will, in conjunction with the Team Leaders provide clinical and managerial support and supervision of staff. The post-holder will support the Head of Service in ensuring advice and training on aspects of the nursing and therapy services is provided to staff within Blackpool Teaching Hospitals and partners.
The post holder’s role is primarily to prepare student doctors and CCS staff for safe clinical practice in a modern NHS and career of lifelong learning. The post holder will work flexibly within various clinical areas, ensuring they are provided with opportunities to meet the core curriculum objectives within children’s services.
A key function of the role will be ensuring the accurate record keeping of training undertaken, an annual training needs analysis and to provide evidence for exterior scrutiny eg Care Quality Commission. The post is predominantly Monday - Friday, occasional weekend work may be required to support the organisation of medical students practical examinations.

Responsible for the day-to-day management of medical and CCS staff professional development.
Maintain strong links with the Clinical Sub Dean, Undergraduate Team and the university ensuring student doctors’ objectives are achieved during clinical placements.
Respond to day-to-day issues within the services to ensure these are resolved as swiftly as possible to ensure safe/continued delivery of service to Children, Young People and their Families.
Ensure the provision of evidence based clinical advice is implemented and monitored within the service.
To develop effective links with Managers/Leads within other Trusts and externally to National organisations to ensure continue to provide an efficient and effective service to Children, Young People and their Families.
Ensure all operational services are delivered in a manner which supports equality and diversity.
Actively promote and raise the profile of the service and promote opportunities for joint working and integrated service provision.
Ensure staff follow safe working practices including home working, conflict resolution and safeguarding, including facilitation of clinical and safeguarding supervision.
The post holder will work within the friendly and diverse, families and integrated care team, working alongside children's community services and supporting medical students from Liverpool and Lancaster University during their practical placements.
The post holder will act as a key communication link between senior management and staff within the services. Linking in with senior medical/ nursing staff to identify educational, training and personal development needs of student doctors whilst allocated to the Directorate

To develop a deep understanding of the Liverpool undergraduate medical curriculum and its teaching/learning methods, and other Universities whom we provide placements for.
To identify, co-ordinate and facilitate educational opportunities/rotational programmes for student doctors (with reference to the clinical portfolio) and contribute as a Case Based Learning (CBL) facilitator.
Manage and facilitate the provision of clinical skills training sessions, e.g., monitor weight and height, Inhaler technique, urine testing, etc.
To facilitate the provision of research based Paediatric care for medical students.
Linking in with senior medical /nursing staff to identify educational, training and personal development needs of student doctors whilst allocated to the Directorate.
To attend Undergraduate Meetings as required and liaise with the Undergraduate team with any general concerns regarding student doctors whilst on placement.
Co-ordinate and monitor attendance providing documentary evidence.
Provide and co-ordinate specialist expert evidence-based knowledge to student doctors in the management of long-term chronic diseases e.g. Cystic fibrosis and epilepsy.
To co-ordinate and facilitate clinical observation of the patient’s journey within primary and secondary health care settings.
