Our Vale of Glamorgan Short Breaks Project in Barry provides residential short breaks, community outreach services and Domiciliary Care for the most vulnerable disabled children and young people aged from 6 to 18 years in the Barry, Penarth and Sully. The service is centrally located with great public transport links all around, only a 5 minute walk from Cadoxton train station
We are seeking enthusiastic, proactive and self-motivated individuals to join our committed, dedicated and supportive team These are excellent opportunities to support activities and sessions providing quality care for children in need across Barry, Penarth and Sully.
**How you'll help to create brighter futures**
- Key working for up to 6 young people which includes assessing, reviewing, planning and providing a 24/7 care service in line with regulatory requirements
- Leading shifts and managing risks whilst maintaining high quality care that is safe, personalized and outcome focused for children and young people in our care
- Supporting young people with taking part in fun activities, learn new skills and work towards independence
- Supporting with personal care, communication, administration of medication and clinical procedures
- Supervising a team of Residential Support Workers
**Let's talk about you**
- Registration or willingness to register with Social Care Wales which we will support you with.
- A Level 3 Social Care Diploma or equivalent or willingness to complete within 2 years
- Experience in a residential short breaks or children's services
- Experience of working with children and young people
- Experience of clear, concise record keeping via IT systems
- Understanding of GDPR, Safeguarding and relevant policies
- Being a driver is advantageous but not essential
As part of your induction, we are committed to providing you with comprehensive training to enable you to support the young people. The training includes safe administration of medication, Team Teach, Manual handling, first aid and safeguarding as well as further training and access to extensive e-learning modules.
We will support you in registering with Social Care Wales and completion of the All Wales Induction Framework, as well training with experienced members of the team, which includes a 2-week shadowing period.
Our goal is to equip you with the necessary tools to excel in your role and confidently carry out your responsibilities to provide the highest level of support to the young person you will be caring for.

As a non-profit organization, we are committed to the recent update from the Welsh Government in relation to **‘eliminating private profit from the care of children looked after**'.
- “80% of care homes in Wales are run by the private sector. _Our aim is to ensure that public money invested in the care of children looked after does not profit individuals or corporate entities, but is wholly spent on children's services to deliver better experiences and outcomes for children and young people, supporting service development and improvement and further professional development for staff.”_
By 2027, they aim to have the care of children who are looked after in Wales, to be provided by the public Sector and charitable or non-profile organisations.
