- The Lake District National Park Authority looks after this unique corner of England, encouraging people to enjoy and understand its beauty and helping those who live and work here. Our staff include rangers and field workers, advisers at our visitor centres, planners and more. We also host around 500 volunteers who make a vital contribution to the work of looking after the National Park in a large variety of roles. We’re looking for someone to join the small friendly team who support and enable those volunteers.
- About the role
- In this role you will coordinate recruitment to our volunteer programmes and manage training opportunities and records. Staff across the organisation will benefit from your support matching volunteers to opportunities, administrating the on-board processes and ensuring volunteers are appropriately inducted and trained for their role.
- As a first point of contact for speculative enquiries about volunteering and applicants for specific volunteer roles you will support them into the right role and help make their volunteering experience smooth and enjoyable.
- The main duties and responsibilities will be:
- Working with staff across the organisation, supporting them to recruit to their volunteer roles and to develop new volunteering opportunities.
- Ensuring a friendly yet efficient and consistent experience for volunteers joining our programmes.
- Plan and deliver induction training which helps volunteers understand the organisation and their part in it.
- Managing a programme of core training opportunities including first aid and navigation and maintaining volunteer training records.
- Developing other opportunities for volunteer training and development
- Contributing to the efficient running of the Volunteer Coordination Team

About you
- We’re looking for someone who can effectively plan and prioritise their own varied workload and contribute to our small and busy team.
- You’ll have experience managing volunteers and confidence to communicate with and support people from a wide range of backgrounds.
- As you will be working with our team of volunteer trainers to manage our in-house navigation training programme, some knowledge of the Lake District and outdoor training is desirable.

- The role will be based at our offices, Wayfaring House, Murley Moss Business Park in Kendal but we’re set up for hybrid working and can accommodate some working from home and from other locations across the National Park. You’ll be provided with a laptop to enable you to access our secure IT network when working remotely. Whilst mostly within office hours there are some weekend and evening events to attend. We’re also happy to talk flexible patterns of work.
