**Main purpose of job**

The postholder will lead and manage the Ardwick Re-Engagement Centre (ARC). ARC is the school’s internal alternative provision for pupils who need additional support before they are ready and able to thrive within the school’s mainstream offer.

The postholder will work closely with the Assistant Headteachers for behaviour and inclusion, in addition to the Deputy Headteacher. They will also liaise with members of the academic, pastoral, welfare and inclusion teams. The way of working will reflect the school’s commitment to joint working.

The postholder will be responsible for ensuring that our aspiration for pupils to thrive as citizens of the world applies to all pupils who access ARC. In doing so, the postholder will play a key role in helping the school to achieve its vision for ‘True Inclusion’.

**Key responsibilities**:
**Leadership & Management**
- Ensure that the ARC helps pupils to overcome identified barriers, so they are able to thrive within the school’s mainstream offer.
- Support key staff who teach within ARC, including specialist intervention teachers and manage the support team in the ARC.
- Collaborate with members of the academic, pastoral, welfare and inclusion teams to: identify which pupils will access the provisions; ensure that pupils’ needs are met; manage re-integration back into the school’s mainstream offer.
- Develop systems to monitor, evaluate and report on the impact of the ARC and the extent to which these provisions contribute to the school’s vision for ‘True Inclusion’.

**School Culture**
- Ensure that staff have the same high expectations of pupils in the ARC, as they have of pupils who remain in our mainstream provision.
- Promote positive and respectful relationships and a safe, orderly and inclusive environment.
- Ensure that, as far as possible, the school’s routines are followed to create readiness for reintegration.
- Ensure that staff and pupils clearly understand and follow the school rules and expectations.
- Support pupils to habituate the habits for success that will enable them to thrive when they re-access the school’s mainstream offer.
- To work closely with the welfare and pastoral team to provide a range of interventions that support pupils with their wellbeing and emotional regulation
- To act as a First Aider
- To build, develop and maintain effective relationships with parents and carers to enhance the educational experience and outcomes of all pupils who access the provisions.
- To contribute to accurate record keeping of all behavioural and pastoral documentation

**Quality of Education**
- Ensure that the curriculum offer creates equity by providing pupils who face the biggest barriers with the highest quality input and support.
- Develop the curriculum offer so that it aligns with the mainstream curriculum offer as far as is practically possible.
- Ensure that pupils work towards the same ambitious curriculum goals as other pupils.
- Support teachers to meet pupils’ needs through skilled and personalised instruction.
- Provide pupils with support that addresses identified barriers, such as those relating to low levels of literacy, numeracy or welfare issues.
- Model highly effective teaching for pupils who access the different provisions.
- Meet the needs of pupils, and ensure alignment with the mainstream curriculum offer, through the judicious use of ICT.
- Ensure that pupils in the ARC and nurture provision benefit from a wealth of personal development opportunities, that are at least as vibrant as the school’s mainstream offer.
